Steemversary Bot is here! - My first steem bot
What it does
Everyday steemversary bot will come alive to find out who’s steemversary(a year after account creation) it is. Steemversary then looks for the users who are still active, for this, it looks who has created a top-level post in the last 6 days. It will upvote and comment on each of those users posts.
I hope to add more interesting stats to this comment in future e.g their reputation/steem power/ number of posts vs other other users who started on that day
Why I made this bot
Primarily this is just a fun project to help support the community, I think it’s interesting that while we now gain 1000’s of users per day there are some users who have been here a long time already. It’s those long-time users who have helped create a platform of value. This was also a great learning experience for me getting to grips with the steem-js API and learning more about the steem blockchain.
how it works
steemversary is a javascript bot. The bot makes full use of existing open source libraries and services. The source code is open-source and available on github. ‘Standing on the shoulders of giants’ you could say. steemSQL is used for the quick query of all users of steem to find those with a creation date of one year prior. steemjs is used to retrieve the latest post from each user and then send votes and comments with the posting key of the bot.
How the bot functions today
- finds all of the users who made their account one year ago
- selects all active posters in the last 6 days ( so the bot can give a meaningful upvote their post.) possible might start sending a different message out to other users who are semi-active.
- divides the total amount of vote strength between all the active accounts to give each account the best upvote it can but allowing full regeneration before voting the next day
- sends vote with an interval of 4 seconds
- sends comments with an interval of 25 second
Currently, the bot runs as a script from my computer but there is no reason it couldn’t run on auto on a server. I’ll set this up shortly
“steemversary is pretty weak”
You’re not wrong. Unfortunately only have 115SP myself even that would have little effect to increase its strength. Everyone starts somewhere. With the current cost fo Steem it is very expensive to buy Steem and power up.
If anyone feels like they like this bot and want’s to delegate steam-power than would be awesome! But totally don’t expect it.
I am going to look into leasing some steem power from minnowbooster (they do discounts for communities) or block trades (when they re-open).
What next
Some ideas for what’s next for steemversary
- extra stats in comment vs other active authors who started on the same day e.g ranking of reputation, steem-power or number of posts
- allow wealthy people to easy delegate sp on the website
To be honest, I am not 100% sure how I feel about bots. On one hand they can be somewhat fun and entertaining, on the other hand, they can be spammy, providing little value to the user base. I feel steemversary is quite un-intrusive (it comments on your content exactly once per year and may even be able to give a meaningful boost in future. What do you think about bots?
Let me know what you think about steemversary bot. As always this is a friendly place so if you have ideas, comments or want to help speak up. ✌️

Nice job! I've been playing around with SteemJS a bit, making some tutorials for utopian-io I'm going to do some work with SteemSQL soon. Thanks for helping me understand its capabilities!
