How to Use MGBA and Play Gameboy, Gameboy Color and Gameboy Advance Games On PS Vita
This is a tutorial about an app called MGBA which is a total Gameboy emulator for the PS Vita.
It can be installed on different platforms such as Windows, Wii, Ubuntu and such but for this tutorial, we'll focus on the PS Vita only.
Alright, let's go.
Requirements
- Wifi
- Computer
- WinRAR
- FTP client (I use WinSCP)
- PS Vita 3.60 on Henkaku/Molecularshell.
Check this post of mine if you don't know how to install Henkaku/Molecularshell.
Steps
- Go to the official Github repository of MGBA. It contains a lot of file for each platform but we only need to download the PS Vita version.
https://github.com/mgba-emu/mgba/releases
- Extract the file using Winrar
- A new folder will be created and inside is the VPK file.
- Open your FTP client on your computer.
- Link your PS Vita to your computer, open Henkaku and then press select and enter the IP address to the FTP client on your computer.
- Transfer the MGBA VPK file to the uxo: folder.
- Once transferred, locate the VPK file and press X a couple of times to install it.
Playing a Game
- Locate the MGBA bubble on the live area to see if it was installed successfully
- Go back to Henkaku/Molecularshell and delete the VPK file to save some space.
- Create a folder in Henkaku/Molecularshell and name it ROMS to locate the game files easily.
- Get a game, should be in gb, gc or gba format, a quick Google search will do, Gameboy, Gameboy Color and Gameboy Advance games can be played and transfer it to the ROMS folder.
- You can now unlink your PS Vita to your computer, launch MGBA by tapping the bubble and then tapping the picture.
- Locate the ROMS folder and your games should be in that folder
- Press X to launch a game
Types of Game Files
The MGBA can play all kinds of games in the Gameboy family.
- Gameboy
- Gameboy Color
- Gameboy Advance
That's the wrap for this tutorial.

Hello Sir, can you please double check? It's not about installing a game and gameplay, it's about installing an emulator app/software to play certain games, there are also other accounts that post tutorials about emulators and they're getting approved. Thank you very much for understanding.
Thank you for the contribution. It has been approved.
