i blockchain is nothing more or less than a flat sequential file where "blocks" interlink in a way that its only possible for a block to be in an exact position in between two others due to the combination (in very layman-speech) but its basically that lol (if you think about it sql is a sequential file too, it just keeps pointers as to where to start for fast access ... multitasking is an illusion and all files are sequential a the base)
what scares me is pushing steem chain in the face of the EU, they have a bad habit of publicly acting all democratic and crowd about it, then draw conclusion and sign laws behind closed doors together with the lobby. It's a bold plan that might actually make the STEEM worth something but its also a coinflip that might explode in your face here. Usually regulation doesn't go down very well on planet crypton. I read many alarming things now the big players are putting pieces on the board. The morganites (the anti BTC concern) are PATENTING some chain - tek ... that's the beginning of the end potentially

de-centralization is a bit of a myth seeing as steemit has a central authority called witnesses (its not like everyone can just run a node, right ? only the rich) and EOS, which is like that amplified, they even call themselve eos_authority ... (how de-centralized does that sound)
its 'somewhat' like torrents only data is stuck in the chain forever (classic chains) where are as torrents are distributed but not 'shared by everyone' and if people stop seeding the data is gone
thats somewhat the main difference , pardon my lack of formal education but i never found that to be in the way of me understanding things (au contraire) , only sometimes in the way of other people getting what i'm saying 
yeah I agree fully what you wrote and understand it totally. The things to add is that some chains have died (meaning that like torrents some chains data is slowly decaying)...
Then I agree with you on steem, yes, I do fear that it will morph soon in a twitter/facebook like censorship... I put the maybe, but I am sure the pressure is intense toward the steemit.inc to make them compliant to the predator class.
I keep a bitmessage running in a vm and plan to learn more about i2p (syndie and co seem nice).

well, i hope to get my own up and running someday but to do that i would need some money from here lol ... if its as bad as you say then its pretty hopeless since i dont see many other alternatives ... my first month here i got nothing but downvoted after spending about 10 minutes in steemchat, must have said something that didnt sound like i was rolling over for a cookie. ALL my posts got downvoted, regardless of content or topic ... for a whole month, but i stuck through and then the price started falling so votes aint worth anything except if you're a cryptonnaire
if they turn to a censorable system then they will make a 180 degree turn like google did but what they do right now : storing every single edit of every single post in the blockchain , even if you alter only one letter i dont think thats the most efficient way to do it either ...
if i were religious id be praying for steem to go up so i could start DOING something i dont work well on dopamine and even less on the promise of a cookie or a bone from the table if i behave and yes, some of the witnesses seem to be very Trumpian in their political speeches, promising to strong-arm the plebs in the name of content (as if everyone can whip out a stephen king novel a day, right?)
guess we'll have to see, its do or die for me, all in, no alternative
