How to (quickly) become a Whale on STEEM?

Yes, sorry, my title is a clickbait. But at least this post gives pretty good advices to make it on Steem! So, read it !

How to become a whale on steem.jpg

Quickly? Did you really believe that? I'm sorry, but that's not possible.

Becoming a Whale on Steem won't be easy (unless you have a lot of money to invest and/or a lot of (a lot of) Friend-Whales to get you up and running... whether you publish quality content or shit, for that matter).

But by the way, what does it mean to be a Whale?

In fact, there are different categories of user level on Steem (remember that Steem is like a gigantic ocean): you will find Minnows, Dolphins and Whales. But in short, to be a Whale you must have (currently, in November 2017), on the platform at least 100,000 Steem Power.

Whaaaaat?! And yes, 100,000 bucks +- blocked on your Steem account. Why not, huh?

You still want to be a Whale? Well, 100,000 SP is cool, but we're gonna have to work. For a long time. And hard.

For a small, quick calculation, assuming that you earn the SP thanks to the platform; without outside help, you will have to work...

Let's say you earn, in 100% Steem Power, $10 per article. For each $ 10 earned, 75% goes to your wallet (and the other 25% is redistributed to the curators: those who will have upvoted/commented). In 1 year( 365 days), having posted every day, you will only be at $2737.50. And you'll need 36+ years to get a rate of one post per day that generates $10 to finally become a Whale.

And that's assuming the price of STEEM doesn't go up. Which is very unlikely. And bad news, the more it increases, the harder it will be to get it.

What? Who said it was easy?

But one thing is certain, remember that all the Whales of today are yesterday's Minnows. They weren't better than you in spelling, they weren’t even real bloggers and believe me, there are a few who were already rich when they arrived on Steem.

Tips & tricks to grow simply & honestly

To become a Whale (or even a Dolphin), you'll have to arm yourself with patience. Barring exceptions, you don't become a Whale overnight (Yes, I know you know someone who... There are always exceptions!).

At first, you're gonna have to get information about Steem. What it is, what the codes are it's called The Etiquette, how to make a place for yourself on the platform. If you come here like a stupid crazy person, you will get flagged and “kicked off” the platform.

You're gonna have to work on understanding Steem, and that might take quite a while. But it's important, I think, to go through this (and good news, I've already pre-mastered some of the work for you).

Then, you will have to build your audience step by step, and attract your followers, those for whom you will write and who will be ready to read you and therefore to upvote.

But you're also going to have to work hard (yes, yes, that's the word) to create quality content and unique in Steem (almost every day) and not be rewarded for your worth. For the time being. Because yes, at the beginning it's difficult... As is everything in the end, as in every project we undertake. At first, it's difficult; we don't know anyone, we try, we believe in it... but it doesn't pay off.

Don't forget also that on Steem, one of the important points is community. Think carefully about how you're going to impact it, what you can give it. Taking on Steem is not enough. Moreover, this strategy will not be able to work in the long-term. Upvote, comment, resteem, but above all engage with the community. Create friends, allies. And support the smallest of you.

Don't forget that by discovering content that will buzz before everyone else (but not too early anyway; I'll come back to it), you'll also be able to gain Steem Power. This is called Curation Reward.

You're also gonna have to have some consistency. Rome wasn't built in a day, and neither was your Steem blog. Well, I hope so, otherwise it'll look suspicious.

As with all projects that you want to carry out in life, you need rigor, discipline. It is the routine that creates success since we repeat the same thing every day towards the same objective.

Remember that it is the seeds that are sown every day on which we must pay attention and not the harvest because it will arrive much later. Think about the Olympic athletes. They train for months or even years to get the victory. Don't give up on the slightest annoyance or difficulty. And if it scares the hell out of you, that's fine, you're on your way.

It will also be necessary to increase your Steem Power at the slightest opportunity since it is the best way to increase your influence on Steem. Come on, let's power up all our articles! We believe in the platform!

Without forgetting to be a model in your writings, in your comments and in your acts. Become an example and grow every day towards a better you. Strive for excellence in every sense of the word.

And with your reputation growing comes responsibility. We're taking care of the platform. You shouldn’t hesitate to flag... trolls and plagiarists.

And don't forget to have a smile! We like positive people around here! We leave the trifles behind the door, we act like big kids.

But the real conclusion of this article is that becoming a Whale is going to take a long time.

And really, do we need to be a Whale to be happy? On Steem, we end up doing the same thing as on Facebook / on our blogs but we’re being paid. Isn't that magical?

You got me with the title, lol! I enjoyed reading it, thank you @Roxane!

Nicely written!
I clicked because I was curious, and the article provided useful info as well as great motivation to keep going.
I have a specific goal, my articles have original content and I really hope to do well.
Even if I do not do so well, the community is great, there are many interesting people and ideas.
Above all, it is a brand new technology that you have to experience, in order to form an opinion.
Thank you again for the nice article!

Hahaha yes, sorry the title is a bit clickbait :D
It's good to have set up goal. I did it too. This is what drives you !
Good luck and to the mooon !! :)

Thank you so much! It seems you have achieved a great deal in a short period!
I am happy to follow you and when my SP grows I will be happy to vote for you again!
(As I have discovered, my vote does not have enough power yet and offers zero :((

Hahaha don't worry @katerinaramm we all have a time where our SP where = zero ;-) N worries ! Dont do it for the money, do it with your heart and because you want to change the world !

Very interesting article, which I upvoted and follow you. For me as a relatively new steemian, it would be particularly interesting to read more on how to frame your portfolio of topics. Right now, I focus on music videos, travel blogs, photography, color challenge, science articles, and cooking recipes. It might be a bit too much and I think it would make sense to specialize in certain topics. What are your experiences with that?

I also think you have to choose a niche and not too much differents subjects...
I am only focusing on developping the french community and explaining steem in french (right now, I am doing a bit more in english from my already articles written in french).

at the beginning of the articles,i was frustrated ,but later i was impressed, hopefull, lot of thanks to you,for this kind of articles, i am just waiting for your next article

thanks for your valuable suggestions. I am a positive thinker. Upvoted
