Tutorial How to use Stellarium Application on Kali Linux
Stellarium is an application for astronomy and cosmological simulation. as we know, Astronomy is the study of objects in the sky like planets, stars and others. The planets are often referred to as the solar system.
This application is built with pyqt and pyopengl and run in the form of GUI (graphic user interface). this application gives full access to the user to do all the simulation with graphics mode.
following how to install and how to use Stellarium Application
Open Terminal
do update the repository, because Stellarium application has just been updated a few days ago. use the https://github.com/Stellarium/stellarium repository
# apt-get update
Do the installation by the way
# apt-get install stellarium
if the message appears continue installation y / n, then type y and enter
Installation is complete
now we open the stellarium by clicking the show aplication menu and type stellarium in the search field. after that please do doubel click on icon stellarium.
it takes a little longer when opening this app, this is due to the large file size and this application is directly connected to the internet and streaming process.
for the main view is directly listed coordinate point position kit is located, as an example in the following picture.
if the mouse cursor is directed to the left then it will appear some of the menu between them
Location window
if we click location window, will appear the map and location of the existing location of the map, for example I chose the location in Jakarta Indonesia.
on the live images are listed
Jakarta Indonesia location is located on Latitude S 6 12 52.63 and Longtitude E 106 50 42.47 with altitude 16 m, name of city of Jakarta, Indonesia, planet Earth, time zone Asia / Jakarta.
if the red arrow I directed on a blank map like the sea it will appear as shown below
The next menu available is Date and Time menu, in this menu we can see the date and time we are now, we can also customize it with the desired date.
many other functions that I can not explain one by one, because I am not an astronomer, but a regular linux user. and these are some other images from the menus available on the stellarium app
this image is a picture of the astronomy calculator menu
Hopefully this tutorial is useful for everyone and thank you.
