New Projects

What is the project about?

In steem there is a "hidden" operation that will convert your sbd to steem, with an assumed value of 1$ per SBD.
I called it hidden, because it is not yet possible to do this with the steemit frontend. (And no other frontend as far as I know.)
This project should provide a very easy method to use the "convert" operation for users so they don't sell their sbd under their value. This is both beneficial to the enduser as well as the whole steem ecosystem as it keeps the sbd price above 1$.
For further information about this please look into @therealwolf's Post.

So basically to keep it short and simple: If the SBD price is below 1$ and you want to buy steem with them you should use this project to convert your SBD to Steem.

You can access the website here.

Technology Stack

For simplicities sake this project only consist of a single html page, including javascript and css.
It uses the dsteem library to access the blockchain. No other libraries are used.
It also doesn't use services like steemconnect. The private active key has to be entered directly into the website.
But as one can see in the source code the key is never saved or send somewhere and only remains on the client side.
So your wallet is never at a risk.

Roadmap

I consider this project as mostly done. It follows the linux approach to only do one thing, but to do that well.

How to contribute?

Every contributor is invited to create pullrequests, make issues on github, write me a message on discord or simply comment on my posts as they see fit.

After you started the conversion it will look like this:

Note that it does take 3.5 days to convert your sbd!

Hello,

Thanks for the addressing the issue. A couple of feedbacks to improve your contribution scores for next time:

  • Formatting and Readability of the post has a place on our scoring system. It would be better to use paragraphs, and support the post with some images, next time.

  • Even though, this little HTML page solves a particular problem we favor complete projects and contributions to already established projects, more. For example, I would love to see a pull request merged to Steemit interface (Condenser) for this.

  • Code comments also has a part on our reviews. Please, make sure you have commented the code before publishing.

Your contribution has been evaluated according to Utopian policies and guidelines, as well as a predefined set of questions pertaining to the category.

@emrebeyler
Please note that @ajayyy created a issue for it to be included in the steemit condenser and it doesn't seem like they want it to be implemented.

I made an issue on GitHub, and for some reason they are not really for the idea of bringing it back, it's weird because that defeats the entire purpose of the coin, to be pegged.

So I think an own project really did serve the users better at this moment.

Hello emrebeyler! :)

Thanks for your feedback, even though I do not agree with parts of it.

To be honest I have a really bad impression about the steemit condenser. Especially in the past where most pull-request wouldn't even be looked at. But that may be my personal grudge :)

Comments should serve to explain complicated matters. I didn't think any of that would be needed here as the coding is really straigthforward and easy to understand. And I consider to make obvious comments a bad practice. The only part I see that really needed the comments was the part with the requestid.
But I added that and a few more obvious comments, hope you like it more that way :)

Martin

Just for your information: this function was removed some time ago, since people lost their money all the time, when they didn't really know how steem works, and converted when SBD was way over 1 USD. If you want to do this, I would personally do this with beempy, since I'm a python guy :P (although beempy simply is a CLI. It's pretty awesome by the way)
Thank you for the tool ;) It surely is the most beginner friendly one I know
Edit: doesn't convert take 7 days to settle? That's what I thought until now at least...

You got me shocked for a moment! I thought you meant it was removed from the api before I realised you meant it was removed on the steemit frontend :)

Oh but that is a nice thought for a future feature: To automatically disable it once the sbd price goes above 1$.

Yeah we need a solution for people who don't even know what a cli is. Not to even mention how to use one ;)

But we do have to talk some time for what exactly you use beempy :) It seems pretty inconvenient to write posts with it or to vote :p Maybe transactions but even then... Please enlighten me :D

Always the python guys
Python would have made this project much more complex for everybody involved.
Started with hosting, steemconnect, etc.
Or even worse if it should be a normal application to install :)

Yea, this needs to be brought back to the steemit UI now.

Yep indeed :/
But as steemit development is rather slow at times this project is a temporary solution until then :)
Maybe somebody can profit from it and hopefully it keeps the price drop in check :)

I made an issue on GitHub, and for some reason they are not really for the idea of bringing it back, it's weird because that defeats the entire purpose of the coin, to be pegged.

Yeah I don't really like the team behind steemit to be honest.
Issues are at most ignored or often closed without a reason. :/

@MWFIAE

This technology is set out to help during this times, good one, at least steemians can trade without loosing much now

My problem with this function is that it takes the average price over the 3 days it takes to convert and also if sbd goes over 1 $ during this time you also lost money.

Well I certainly wouldn't recommend it if the sbd price is around 1$.
But if it's clearly under it, like 0.8$ then it's a really good alternative ;)
