The utopian.io landingpage has finally reached a state that can be considered final... for now... kind of... well, not really but there are some notable changes. @elear moved it to it's public domain http://join.utopian.io a few days ago already but the last changes were integrated just yesterday. Here's my summary of what has changed over the last 100 commits since my last report.

Copywriting

First of all I want to say thank you to @imwatsi who proof-read and improved all the texts and wrote very professional new ones for all the categories and the FAQ for example. I know what a hard task it can be to organize information to be meaningful but short and understandable. @imwatsi, you did a great job! :)

Contributions

The projects section now also shows the top contributions for the selected project, to bring the contributions a bit more into focus.

To be honest the relevant code got a bit messy because I had a hard time making jQuery, the Slick carousel plugin, animations and VueJS work together. Maybe someone wants to work on this while I need some time for other things.

Project owners

The project owners section wasn't there the last time I posted, so I have to mention it. :D

However, I think this section will be subject to more changes as there will be more tools and opportunities for project owners in the future. We'll see.

Rewards

The rewards are now nicely animated and continuously updated every 30 seconds. Feels even better now to look at these every increasing numbers! :D

Style Changes

You might have noticed that the icons have changed. They are now the same as on utopian.io. Thanks @nelsonm for providing the images... but... wait... in the moment I'm writing this I realize that they are exactly the same as in the icon font used on utopian.io so maybe it would be better to use those instead of images. Maybe this will be part of a future performance update that is definitely needed in general.

Then those boxes look better now.

The moderators carousel also changed a bit and the individual rewards are now shown instead of social media icons.

I just wonder why I didn't animate them.... maybe some day. :P

Footer

The social media icons are now actually linked. But there's something missing in the footer. Maybe it has something to do with the newsletter. I'll think about this... :D

Mobile Fixes

Last but not least I made some minor style fixes for small screens.

Translations

For the landingpage I think it's important to address as many people as possible by translating the content to as many languages as possible. I already integrated a language switcher which is currently disabled and I'm working on the German translation but their will be a separate post on this, calling for translators. I just need to finish some preparations.

Performance

The landingpage currently makes a ton of requests and could easily be improved performance-wise.

Many of those requests are all the moderator's and contributor's profile images but for example all css and js files can be combined, images can be reduced in filesize and there are a lot more ways to make the page load faster.
