Introduction

Omni notes is a note taking application. It can be likened to an Android version of Microsoft Notepad.

The development of Omni notes was inspired by the need to have a note taking application that is compatible with older versions of Android while still maintaining the smart features that are usable with newer versions of Android.

The interface for this application was built using a Material design paradigm which I find interesting being a lover and user of material designs myself.

In this post we'll discuss the features of this application and illustrate their uses.

Post Body

Primarily, omni-notes was designed to help users take notes.

Overtime, other features have been added to help users add multimedia to their notes.

The file attachment feature allows the users add images, audios and videos to their notes.

The image below shows the list of allowed attachments in the application.

From the list in the image above, users can add a freshly photograhed image by clicking on Camera.

You can add video files by clicking on Video.

Through the Files option documents such as pdfs and text files can be added.

The record option can be used to attach recorded audio files to the note

Users can make and attach sketches by using the Sketch option

The users present location or any other location can be referenced using longitudes and latitudes by clicking the Location option

Each created note in the application can be categorized under separate categories. To categorize notes click on the second icon on the top bar and the following image will show

Choosing the ADD CATEGORY option will show a screen where users can enter the category name as shown below

Notes can be shared with other people as a text file directly from the application by clicking on the fourth icon on the top bar.

We have been discussing the main features of the application. The application has a number of sub features that can be viewed by clicking the last icon on the top bar.

On the list of subfeatures shown in the image above the user can execute the following functions

By clicking enable checklist, users can add checklists/todo list in their notes. This feature is illustrated in the image below

Omni notes provides users the opportunity to secure their notes from unauthorized users.

On the list in the last image, if you click on Lock you'll get the screen in the below image.

This feature allows users to set a password for their notes.

In addition to setting a password users can also can also add a secret question which only they know the answer to.

This secret question and answer can be used to recover the set password incase the user forgets.

Other sub features in the application include the Archive, Trash and Info.

Archive option allows the user to store notes in the archive folder of the application.

Trash is meant for holding notes that are deleted temporarily. Users can delete posts permanently by visiting the Trash folder in the application.

Info is used to store metrics about the current note being taken.

Hi. Thank you for writing about this open source software, with which I was unfamiliar.

That said, this post would have greatly benefited from an addition of personal or editorial content. As it is, it is just a list of features with some screenshots. Apart from learning that you like material design, there is nothing here readers couldn't learn elsewhere. I would recommend that you try to make your content more unique in the future.
