Release of the first version of ethtags/dogtags to github
Hi, I have released my project ethtags/dogtags on github, both the frondend and the backend. You can check it out in action here. And you can check out the source code on github.
Dogtags
Ethtags or Dogtags is a simple ethereum dAPP which gives you the ability to attach a short string and a name to your address in the ethereum blockchain. This set of name and string is called dogtag. You can see you dogtag via the link which is provided after a dogtag is set and dogtag can also be embeded as an iframe. The dogtag also contains a qrcode and shows your adress so people can also easily send you some ethereum.
The frontend
Main page
This is the main page which greets you after you open Dogtags, here you can set the name and text that should be associated with your address. You can also copy one of the two links to share your Dogtag with your friends, the first code field contains a direct link to a page with your Dogtag and the second code field contains an iframe, which can be used, for example, in a signature on a forum that supports html in signatures.
Dogtag
This is your dogtag, it is safely stored in the ethereum blockchain and it can be displayed in any browser which supports ethereum (through metamask, etc...). As mentioned previously the dogtag contains qrcode with the address in order to make it easier to copy the address to your mobile phone or other devices equipped with camera.
Landing page for people who do not have ethereum browser or metamask installed
How to test out dogtags
Dogtags are not running in the main ethereum network, yet. Instead I have deployed dogtags on the Ropsten test network, in order to try it out you will have to select Ropsten test network in metamask like this:
Backend
The github repository also contains the smart contract responsible for handling the dogtags.
