- Are the .meta files needed to run or develop? How about .prefab?
- Images are always appreciated and animated ones even better.

.meta files are required. .prefab files are game object storage files to initialize during run time. These files are required to run the project, so I cannot gitignore them. Same with scene files.
They are pain text, so they at least work fine with git.
The meta files are the import settings for the files in the engine.
