Introduction.

The world is made up of over seven(7) billion different individuals. In every single person, lies a talent or, talents. The problem is, some individuals have tapped into their talents, and carved out a career for themselves, while some have not. The problem for those who have decided to find careers not related to their talents are;

  • Lack of passion in an active career.
  • Unhappiness in an active career.

These are the two major problems, an individual who pursue a career other than their talents, face.

The reasons why people pursue careers outside their talents are;

  • Absence of a medium, or, platform to showcase their talent.
  • Little, or no earnings from talent exhibition.

The undeniable fact is that talent has become a major profit-driven commodity in the world today. Those who have successfully pursued careers in their respective talents can testify to this.

This post is a sequel to my previous post in the Knacksteem series. Knacksteem is a platform that rewards talent. It is the first of its kind on the steem blockchain. In the previous post, I gave a general overview of the project, and was able to discuss the following points;

  • What is Knacksteem?
  • Knacksteem categories.
  • Category suggestions
  • Best category on Knacksteem
  • The KNACK EFFECT. (Objectives and Advantages of Knacksteem)
  • Knack token
  • Knack store.

The project owner made an annoucement about developments done on the project some weeks ago. Furthermore, another annoucement was made recently which gave insight on the future plans of the project.

In this post, I will be doing a review based on those two announcements.

The first announcement that was published, was about developmental updates on the project. One of the areas that were affected in that update was the UI of Knacksteem. So, Knacksteem's user interface(UI) is the first feature I will be reviewing.

Knacksteem User Interface (UI)

The Knacksteem UI is particularly impressive. First, the Landing page is great.

Knack land 3.png

The webpage is adorned in blue and white color schemes. Blue and white are steem's primary colors. It's the reason a majority of dApps built on the steem blockchain adopt this color scheme. I fancy this color scheme however, I would like to see developers of these dApps adopt other colors alongside the blue and white. There are few dApps on the steem blockchain, whose designs are not covered in blue, but, they are still lovely. An example is "SteemHunt".

The blue and white color scheme on Knacksteem is still great. Blue has a soft appealing feel on my eyes, so it's great for me. That being said, I will love to see other colors added to it. Aside from the color scheme, another interesting feature are, the images on the page. These images are graphical illustrations of points on the landing page. They are great. I will love to see actual images of humans used though, and not vector arts.

Using actual images will make the webpage more classy. This might be a hard thing to pull off but, there are platforms where images needed can be sourced. Examples are, Pexels and Pixabay.

The main page where community members can create, and submit their contributions, still spots a great UI. Just like the landing page, blue and white are the major colors you will find. I like the interface. It has a kind of Busy.org feeling to it but, it is unique in its own way. Optimizing the User interface on this page was one of the major work that was done as announced by the developer. Prior to that update, the webpage wasn't optimized for mobile devices and even on PC. Those problems are now fixed and the UI looks great both on a mobile phone and on PC.

Here is an image of the User Interface on my PC and mobile phone.

The UI on PC can be better with little adjustments and re-arrangements. There are unused or unwanted spaces on display. I will leave out details about those areas, as they might be defaming. But, I will discuss this with the project owner and if he buys my idea, appropriate changes will be made.

Similar post feature.

The similar post feature is a tool that was recently implemented on Knacksteem. Basically, this feature functions as the name imply. It suggests similar posts to an author. Honestly, I have not yet experienced how this feature actually works. But, hopefully, it works as expected. The developer might have gotten the idea of this feature from Utopian. The Utopian front-end, while it was available, suggested similar contributions to contributors while they created the posts on the post editor. This feature on Utopian was effective. I don't know what metrics were used to judge if two posts were similar, but, whatever it was, it was efficient. The reason why the feature existed on Utopian is because duplicate contributions or similar contributions aren't accepted on utopian. If this same feature exists on Knacksteem, it means that Knacksteem won't accept similar contributions. I'm not entirely sure about that though. That being said, this feature on Knackteem is not currently built for the same purpose as it was on Utopian. Maybe it will be so in the future, as a statement by the project owner in the post suggests.

Post editor and post preview enhancements.

Knack editor.png

Another update that was done on the platform was the enhancement of the post editor and, post preview. There are not so many talking points from this update. But this feature has an effect on user experience(UX). I never used Knacksteem front-end before this update, so I can't really tell how bad it was before it was enhanced. The post editor works great. In fact, my last blog post was published on the blockchain from Knacksteem. I experienced no lag or had any issues using it. The post editor gives users a choice to either display post preview, or not, which is great.

User profile page.

knack user.png

Before this update, there was no user profile page. This means users of Knacksteem had to depend on other steem dApps to check out their profile. This is now available on Knacksteem and it's packing a lot of features and menus, although, many of them are redundant. On the user profile page, users can see all the posts they have made on Knacksteem. They can also sort the posts according to the following parameters

  • Only accepted posts
  • Only pending posts
  • Only declined posts.

Accepted posts are contributions that have been accepted by Knacksteem's moderators(mavens) or supervisors.

Pending posts are contributions that are not yet reviewed and kept pending by a moderator(maven) or supervisor.

Declined posts are contributions that didn't meet up to Knacksteem's standards and were rejected by the review team.

I like the categorization. It makes the user's feed organized. The Utopian front-end worked exactly like this.

There are other menus on the user profile page such as;

  • Followers/following
  • Wallet
  • Activity
  • Edit profile button.

Currently, clicking on any of those menus will automatically redirect a user to steemit. Except for wallet and activity. Those ones are not functional. The presence of these menus shows that they will be made available to users on Knacksteem. I'm certain that the development team is working on this.
The user profile page is an important feature for any steem dApp. It's great to have it on Knacksteem. However, after surfing through that page, I noticed some minor UI issues, which I will definitely communicate with the project owner.

Moderators and sponsors page.

ice_screenshot_20190104-223934.png

The moderators and sponsors page is simply a page designed to showcase Knacksteem's moderators and sponsors. According to the project owner, the page is a means of appreciating them(sponsors and moderators) and their willingness to support the project. I honestly think this a great thing from the project owner. Maybe I don't like the location where this is placed on the webpage, but it's a good thing regardless.

These are the areas that received recent development updates and changes as seen in this announcement post.

In the other announcement post, the project owner went all out and discussed the project's future plans. The blog post centered on two major things. Knack tokens and the Knackstore. These are two major aspects of the project that will be rolling out very soon. This month to be precise. This news gladdens my heart, especially because, the Knackstore idea was originally my idea, and I am excited the project owner liked it. The project owner made slight tweaks to the original idea I had in mind, and it came out even better. Furthermore, aside from the Knackstore, I'm excited about the Knacktokens too. I'm impressed with the way the developer plans to distribute these tokens when developed. It shows how well-thought and organized the entire Knacksteem project is. Being an SP delegator, I can't wait to start receiving my daily dose of Knacktokens.

This is all I can say with regards to this announcement post. You can already guess that my thoughts about the Knack tokens and Knackstore is a positive one. Not just because it is my idea but, because of the great impact it'll have on the blockchain and even outside the blockchain.

Summary.

Knacksteem is a great platform. It's a project I am optimistic about. The project owner has mapped out a solid plan for the project and is sure of execution. Personally, I am rooting to see this project attain its full potentials. The project will have a lot of positive impact on the world if fully adopted. The latest publication on the project's blog suggests that it (Knacksteem) has taken a step further beyond rewarding talented contributors, by creating an avenue for these individuals to get more value for their respective knacks. Major developments are going on currently on the platform. Being a copywriter for the project has given me an opportunity to learn more about the project. Moreso, it has given me access to privileged information. All I can say is, the best of Knacksteem is yet to come.
