Adsense-like features for Steemit - Rent your Steemit blog's virtual screen space to advertisers and earn!
Hello fellow Steemians and Utopians,
I recently found out about utopian.io and am so glad that you guys made this open source contribution channel for Steem!
A new feature/application that I would like to see added to steemit is an Adsense like marketing/ads marketplace where advertisers can rent out ad space on Steem bloggers' pages.
I think that the best way to go about it is to have the Steem blogger check off a checkbox in his/her profile settings page that would allow banner ads to be shown on their page. The Steemian should also have a way to select only category specific ads to be displayed if they would like to, and also see a CPC bidding orderbook of orders placed by advertisers.
Advertisers should have their ads formatted to a specific size that fits the aesthetics of the Steem blog page, and should be screened before being approved on the ad orderbook. Advertisers should also be able to see different blog metrics for each blog, such as number of followers, blogging history and frequency, average number of upvotes and upvote $ values, average number of views, etc.
The platform should also clearly explain to potential advertisers about the existence of upvote bots and how they affect metrics, as well as have a clear anti-abuse policy set in place that would protect both advertisers as well as Steem blog owners.
I think that this Steem application/feature would ad TREMENDOUS value to our beloved Steem blockchain, and would bring in magnitudes more users.
The developer team that would tackle this project could set it up as an SMT and let investors participate by selling their tokens. The team could generate revenue by taking a percentage of the ad revenue that Steemians receive from their ads, and distribute a portion of those profits to the investors that hold the SMT tokens.

@utopian-io To add to this topic, this new feature should be created as a plugin for other blogging platforms as well (Wordpress, Blogger, etc.) so that other bloggers can use the Steemit blockchain to generate revenues on all their blogging platforms, and quite possibly give an incentive to make Steemit their primary blogging platform from where they will be sharing the content to their other blogs.
This is similar to the curation plugin that some Steemit developers are currently working on.
why ruin this wonderful haven for all the #ihateseeingadvertonmyfavoritesocialmedia people with ads just for few petty cents? Are you not happy with the rewards? just 1 SBD at present is giving us the same value which YouTube gives for 10,000 views of advertisement by the audiences of your content..
I completely understand your point. This platform can and should be pristine and ads free. However, I think that it is a matter of time until some blockchain developers are going to see this opportunity and will try to monetize on it. I rather it be the Steemit Foundation rather than someone else, as they are better suited to regulated it such that it does not devalue Steemit as a platform.
I know some people who tried to add some advertisement at the end of their post and got flagged instead.. I understand your idea.. yes advertisement can bring a great amount of revenue but then again the idea of not allowing advertisement served as a strong point for the site and the user having a relaxing feel while surfing here.. Not allowing advertisement serves as an advantage here.. but anyway I bet you were thinking for the betterment of the community that if Steemit Inc allows adverts they can have another source of funds and use it for the development of the community ultimately will benefit everyone here including me and you as well 😎
That is the idea. Also, most users use Adblocker anyways, so ads or no ads, we still don't see any ads lol.
As for the revenue stream for Steemit Inc., this is definitely something they are pursuing in my opinion (from listening to the recent Steemfest presentation in Lisbon). Creating SMART value adding revenue streams is key though.
I was not at Lisbon, don't know much.. trying to watch videos but I'm a bit lazy for that... but anyway I think the best way is to bootstrap the currency and make people believe in it.. and have more and more major exchanges enlist Steem and SBD in their sites.. anyway let's see what kind of surprises we will have in 2018.. this $15 for one SBD is already a big win for all Steemit members..
