Utopian Moderator Super Supporter - Blockchain Business Intelligence
This was prompted by @yabapmatt's blog post to support our Utopian moderators and inspired by @paulag's Minnowsupport Report.
This is similar to the Utopian Super Supporter analysis, but this time let's look into the people who have up-voted the comments1 of the moderator who approved their contribution.
1: Comments that include the text "It has been approved."
Outline
- Scope of Analysis
- Utopian Growth Check
- Who are the Utopian Moderators? How Many has Each Reviewed?
- Who Up-votes their Moderator's Comments? Utopian Super Supporter!
- By Frequency
- By Reward Shares
- Tool Used
Let's start.
1. Scope of Analysis
- Contributions were acquired on Jan. 12, 2018 2200H GMT+8
- Data extracted was from
2017-09-28 1539H UTCto2018-01-10 1941H UTC - Up-votes on comments that include the text "It has been approved." were considered
2. Utopian Growth Check
The same with previous analyses, let's check Utopian's growth by looking at its rewarded authors, contributed projects, and up-voted contributions.
Contributions almost tripled last December compared to November. From 2500+ contributions, it grew to 7000+ in December.
Comparing the three indicators - authors, projects, and contributions - in a table will give us:
91% growth in the number of authors rewarded and 168% growth in the number of projects contributed.
For January, it still looks solid in its first two weeks rewarding 800++ authors, close to 900 projects, and 4000+ contributions. Looking at the chart above, it has already surpassed its numbers for November.
3. Who are the Utopian Moderators? How Many Contributions has Each Reviewed?
Using the Utopian API, it gave the following data.
As of Jan. 10, the top 3 moderators who have reviewed the most contributions are @drigweeu with 938, followed by @ruah with 925, and @knowledges with 857.
In @utopian-io's lifetime, there were a total of 99 moderators who reviewed more than 14000 contributions. To generalize this information, let's relate those numbers with the number of days that Utopian has existed (from October to January, around 100 days):
- 14000 contributions / 100 days = 140 contributions per day
- 140 contributions per day / 100 moderators = 1.4 reviewed contributions per day, per moderator
1.4 reviewed contributions per day, per moderator this is the number the Utopian moderators put up for the system to work.
However, this is a huge generalization. Let's dig deeper and look at the data for the past 60 days.
Because this author couldn't find a field from the result of the API to determine the date a contribution was approved, the author decided to use the contribution's creation date as the x-axis (horizontal) for the chart above.
Looking at the inset table (contributions reviewed the last 7 days) the contributions reviewed per day, per moderator is around 5 to 9 contributions.
4. Who Up-votes their Moderator's Comments? Utopian Super Supporter!
Now that we've looked at the numbers the moderators have to put up. Let's look at contributors who up-vote their moderator's comments.
4.1. By Frequency
Based on the chart above, 74% of moderator comments were not up-voted.
The Utopian Moderator Super Supporter based on frequency is @utopian.tip which is a bot. Next to it is @vladimir-simovic who has up-voted 129 comments by moderators.
Although up-voting your moderator's comment is not really required, the contributor may want to re-consider this to show support to Utopian moderators.
4.2. By Reward Shares
Because of the difficulty in acquiring the $ value of the voter, this author decided just to display the data as reward shares.
Based on this chart, Utopian's Moderator Super Supporter in this category is @jamesbarraclough who has rewarded utopian moderators with 50 trillion reward shares.
5. Tools Used
- SteemSQL by @arcange
- Utopian API
- Node.js and npm to extract the data
- Power BI and Excel to generate the charts
5.1. Source Code
Codes used to extract data for this analysis are available in Github:

Hi @crokkon. Thank you. Yes, it gets tougher and tougher with the analysis. It usually takes days for me to come up with the idea/topic, and another couple of days to gather the data and generate the report.
I know exactly what you mean, analysis contributions take a lot of time :)
True. It's always consoling for a fellow analyst to understand. :)
I was also in the middle of submitting the post when the announcement for the rules update was published.
I had to re-edit my contribution.
Well done for going first @eastmael! I couldn't for the life of me work out what "Example Point 1" on the analysis template was supposed to include!
Thanks @miniature-tiger. I also had to pause to understand it, but figured that it must just be the results so just went ahead with the bullet points I prepared.
Hey @crokkon, I just gave you a tip for your hard work on moderation. Upvote this comment to support the utopian moderators and increase your future rewards!
Utopian not only give reward to contributor, but it teach them how to be professional contributor
Exactly. It encourages us to improve ourselves over time.
Great way of showing off the new template, this is certainly something that can be used as an example for newer people! Really informative subject too!
Thanks @minersean. It took me a lot of edits to get it where it is right now and it's encouraging when people appreciate the work you've done. :)
