Project Details

Node.js is an open-source, cross-platform JavaScript run-time environment that executes JavaScript code outside of a browser... Node.js allows the creation of Web servers and networking tools using JavaScript and a collection of "modules" that handle various core functionality... Node.js represents a "JavaScript everywhere" paradigm, unifying web application development around a single programming language, rather than different languages for server side and client side scripts.

In simple words, this project brings value to the open source community because it facilitates the creation of all sort of applications using JavaScript, and provides a lot of help and versatility to developers. If you want to know more about this project feel free to visit its website

Contribution Specifications

  • Translation Overview

This is my fourteenth contribution to Node.js, the folder is the one I have been working on for the past few contributions, it is called CHANGELOG_V6.md and most of its strings are about providing all the necessary information to developers about every single change in Node.js V6, so they are properly informed when using this tool. In this contributions the work mostly consisted in translating the indications from several commits, some of them had technical words that were left untranslated to preserve the meaning of the text, and each commit also had the name of the person who proposed it.

We can see a few examples below:

English

This release includes a security update to openssl that has been deemed low severity for the Node.js project.

Spanish

Esta versión incluye una actualización de seguridad para openssl que ha sido considerada de baja gravedad para el proyecto Node.js.

English

upgrade openssl sources to 1.0.2m (Shigeki Ohtsu) <0>#16691</0>

Spanish

actualizar fuentes openssl a 1.0.2m (Shigeki Ohtsu) <0>#16691</0>

English

[<0>9e74e542a2</0>] - <1>test</1>: skip test due to file size limit (jBarz) <2>#16273</2>

Spanish

[<0>9e74e542a2</0>] - <1>test</1>: omitir prueba debido al límite de tamaño de archivo (jBarz) <2>#16273</2>

When working on this contribution I was able to learn the following concepts:

Code refactoring: is the process of restructuring existing computer code—changing the factoring—without changing its external behavior. Refactoring improves nonfunctional attributes of the software. Advantages include improved code readability and reduced complexity; these can improve source-code maintainability and create a more expressive internal architecture or object model to improve extensibility. Typically, refactoring applies a series of standardised basic micro-refactorings, each of which is (usually) a tiny change in a computer program's source code that either preserves the behaviour of the software, or at least does not modify its conformance to functional requirements. | Source

ES6 Classes: ES6 Classes formalize the common JavaScript pattern of simulating class-like inheritance hierarchies using functions and prototypes. They are effectively simple sugaring over prototype-based OO, offering a convenient declarative form for class patterns which encourage interoperability. | Source

In the previous contributions, I included the definition of these terms: deprecation, I/O - input/output, callback, asynchrony, POSIX, parsing, path, wildcard, wrapper function, stack trace, floating point value, error-first callbacks, transpilation tool, root certificate, little-endian, DNS rebinding, same-origin-policy, keep-alive behavior, stringification, arrow function, salt (cryptography), semver, lint, fixtures modules, newline, backporting and shell command.
