Introduction

Have you ever been in that situation where you lend someone your phone and he/she misuses it by tampering with your privacy? Well I've been there before (that was then). If you are presently in that situation, then you need to know that this App lock application was created for you.

What is App Lock?

App Lock is a smarter and safer open source application which helps me lock my applications from intruders.
It awaits you on F-Droid.

How I got to know of the App lock application

I opened my F-Droid application looking for a particular app when I saw the App lock logo which caught my eye. I clicked on the logo and was a bit surprised to see that the app is a very light app of about 2.32MB. Then I saw a sentence that said "updated 5 days ago". I went through the app's GitHub repository to confirm that I wasn't toiling with the wrong app. After all my inspections, I didn't hesitate to download the app because it was obvious that it was a new app and I wanted to see what the developer have been up to.

Features of App lock

  • Completely free: First things first, if the App lock application wasn't free, I doubt I would have gotten to know what it's like. The App lock application is absolutely free to anyone who is at any location. "Absolutely free" I said.

  • No ads: Everyone hates ads, I hate them too. I once downloaded a similar application which used my hard earned data connection to display ads for me. After some few days, I got fed up and uninstalled the application. Talking of App lock, there's no such thing as an advertisement in the application. It doesn't even use my data connection (come rain or sun, there are no ads).

  • Lock apps immediately device locks: This App lock application will automatically lock your selected applications when your phone is locked. So I clicked on my device's power button and my phone was locked, I figured out that all my selected apps were also locked (even after unlocking the device)

  • Hide pattern: No matter how difficult my pattern is, those around me will just take a look or two and they'll capture it. That ain't happening anymore. As long as I'm using the App lock application no one can see my pattern because I can (and have) hidden it. All they can see is my thumb moving left and right.

  • Intruder selfie: I'll really love to see my device capture the face of that intruder who will touch my phone. This feature has not been activated yet (though the feature is already available in the App lock application). This feature will be able to automatically take selfies of anyone who tries to unlock the users applications.

How to get started with App lock

  • Download the latest version (version 1.1) of the App lock application on F-Droid
  • Safely install the app on your device
  • Launch the application
  • Click on the 'Permit permission' option and permit the application to track whatever apps you are using and how often you use them
  • Set up your preferred pattern
  • Choose any of your applications which you want to lock.

If you followed the steps as I listed them (or in the GIF) then you're good to go!

Latest update

  • Just five days ago, the developer released the version 1.1 of the App lock application and it's the first stable release.

Conclusion

  • This app is the perfect tool if you want your apps to be private. As for the 'Intruder selfie' feature, I believe it will be activated soon so I suggest you hang on and enjoy the other features while the developer is working to add more features.
  • Since this app is still kinda new, I'll take it up in series. So once there are updates, I'll write a blog about the updates.

Hi Chrisbarth,

Thank you for the contribution.

I think you need to improve your future publications. The quality of a good blog post depends on the volume, presentation, and the editorial part. Considering these, you need to increase the volume of your publications, including the editorial part of your content. The post is too brief and does not contain much of your thoughts, and experiences.

Also, the post could have rounds of proofreading to enhance readability. There are omissions, style, and grammar issues. I would advise you to proofread your texts correctly and use Grammarly to fix minor issues.

Thank you!
