How to Create a Bitshares Account
Besides a currency, Bitshares is known for its decentralized exchange, super-fast transaction speeds, low fees, and ability to handle lots of transactions.
It has an incredible community behind it and the very open-source nature of Bitshares allows people, businesses, and organizations to harness the power behind it to help their missions.
One of the awesome parts of the open-source nature of Bitshares is that there are multiple ways to access the Bitshares platform.
And if you are unhappy with the status and performance of any of these gateways you have the ability to create your own.
There is Openledger and Rudex with gateways to Bitshares. You also have the classic Bitshares Wallet.
To access Bitshares through the Openledger gateway use: https://openledger.io/dashboard
To access Bitshares through the Rudex gateway use: https://rudex.org/
I personally use the good ole fashioned: https://wallet.bitshares.org/#/
And it doesn't matter which way you access Bitshares, the account name you create is used for any gateway.
So click the gateway you want to use. We will use https://wallet.bitshares.org/#/ for this example.
This screen will show up:
Click "Create Account" in the upper right hand corner.
The below screen will pop-up and then you proceed to click "Create Account." [This is the Cloud Wallet method]
The following screen will pop-up with a generated password. Make sure to press that blue copy to clipboard button so you copy your entire password.
DO NOT screenshot your password. You will miss the last digits and not be able to get into your account. I had a friend lose Ethereum in his new Bitshares account because he did this and has no way to get access to his account besides guessing those last 6 digits.
Also, make sure to store your password in different places both offline and online. That way you should have access to your password in case of a incident like a USB drive getting erased or lost.
You can create basic Bitshares accounts for free and then premium (Life-time memberships) cost additional. We will be covering basic accounts in this tutorial.
Make sure your Bitshares username has a dash in it or this will show up:
Once you have created you Bitshares username selected, make sure to check the boxes indicating you have accomplished these tasks.
Click "Create Account" and you are on done.
You have created your Bitshares username using the Cloud Wallet method. How efficient and effective was that?
Now anytime you need your Bitshares, Openledger, or Rudex username, this is this username you use to sign-in.
Now if you want to back-up your account locally on your machine you can do so by doing the following process.
Click "Advanced" when you are at the Create Account screen
Once you click advanced a similar log-in screen will show up like so:
You get to create your own password with this option which some prefer. Make sure its longer than 8 characters and has a mixture of symbols and numbers so it has maximum security.
Once you create this account, a Bitshares local wallet will be created and stored and information will be provided in the case you need to restore your local wallet from backup .
This concludes this tutorial on How to Create a Bitshares Account.
Hope this provides value so that you can take harness the advantages and benefits of Bitshares and use it to provide value to yourself and others.

Anytime chief ;) haha, well your value go yourself a follow!
Ayyyyy much appreciation :))
I would recommend everyone to make an account at BitShares. Great things are ahead for decentralised exchanges in general and BitShares in particular. In combination with Blocktrades.us an iron combination with the Steemit platform.
O heck yeah glad you see the vision and how big decentralization, Bitshares, Steemit and awesome services like Blocktrades play a role in it.
Appreciate you.

Hi thanks a lot for this post, just at the right time, each time i refresh my login page, it just stays blank, i have tried using two browsers or does the site block some locations ip?
You're very welcome.
Wow thats interesting. I personally use Google Chrome. But I know sometimes you might have to clear your cache and/or cookies before it works correctly.
I do not believe Bitshares blocks locations either.
Hope that helps

Hi,
I'm having trouble creating a second wallet account.
When I am logged-off my first account, I can still select "Create Account" from the menu bar (top right standard pull down menu).
But when I get the new screen (see image below) and I enter the new account user info, it seems to force me to select "PAY WITH ACCOUNT" which is very strange Why?
There is a "Pull-down" menu with this which shows my 1st wallet account name, but even if I select it the "CREATE ACCOUNT" button remains"unclickable" and I cannot create this second account. Very frustrating!
Is this a bug or is it because we are only allowed one wallet/account for a given browser?
Any help on how to remedy this would be highly appreciated. Basically, I want to be able to use multiple accounts from the same computer and browser.
Thanks!
O I know it is one thing I hope they fix soon. I have that same problem so you are not alone. Here is the Bitshares Discord group where you can ask @fav he is the guy to ask in that Discord.
Hope this helps
Hi, thanks for the tip. Unfortunately @fav doesn't seem so active here on Steemit, nor does his website work. Do you know how this "Discord" thing works? Is it https://discordapp.com/ ?
Yes I do I am frequently on Discord. Sorry I forgot to include the link. Here is the link the the Bitshares Discord: https://discord.gg/Mdw7Ksr
Discord is like a Slack-like product a lot of people on Steemit use.
Hi, I joined. Trying to add you as a friend and enter "Mdw7Ksr" as a "tag" but it doesn't seem to work. What is your username/tag there? I think it is asking for a 4 digit one (yet others have non-digit characters). I think mine is #3373. Confusing.
Also, is Discord safe? I am not downloading the computer app but running it from the browser; and I get this ill feeling that it could be used to snoop.
Also I want to pose my question in #bitshares-101 but I do not have permission to post there yet. How to do this?
Thanks! P.S.: Sorry for being such a nuisance.
No worries I would just ask the question in General and see is anyone can help you. I haven't had any luck finding a way to do two accounts in one computer.
I would say Discord is safe most of the security-focused Steemians like it it seems.
But I am @chiefmappster #8824 here to help bu
Ok, I think I successfully sent the friends request to you.
But I still can't post in #Bitshares-101 as it says: "You do not have permission to send messages in this channel". Any ideas?
Just accepted it. I would just propose the question in General and I will work on why you can't post in #bitshares-101
