How to make SteemIt more credible

in #utopian-io8 years ago

Hello,

I joined SteemIt 6 weeks ago with the idea to write about the science and about the cars, and I noticed the serious problem - credibility.

According to the current system of rewards, all you need to become successful are the votes from the whales. I'm not complaining, my posts receive good scores but I also see a lot of junk with high earnings due to pure social interactions and the VoteBot actions.

My proposal is to establish some simple metrics that would be used as the weight factor.

For example, if there is the tag: science, steemSTEM, than such article should get the "boost", higher weight, if it contains the real, scientific reference. How to find if it contains - simple. If there is the link to pdf file - it's fine.

If the source to the original research is not included, that is not the science, but the badly translated text from some daily newspapers or some lame text writen without serious thinking.

Or in the worst case - it's pure fiction, lie or you can call it however you want.

SteemIt is still "elite" platform, but just imagine some Alex Jones, Mercola or you name it - in the science section?

Also think about the payed profi currators. I understand the "freedom of speach" but it's not smart to give the equal amount of power to a iliterate guy and the expert with 15 years of experience and knowledge.

Cars tag

Here I see an incredible amount of pointless articles and sometimes I 'm wasting my time by opening them.

There should be some kind of metrics with the flag indicators.

< 100 words, 1 image, 1 video - light article
~300 words, 3 images - may be serious?
~ 500 words, 5 images - serious article

Weighting system would encourage the authors to make high-quality content

We actually read all the articles we are upvoting, and good references is mandatory to get a strong steemstem vote. You may want to check this article to get more information about our guidelines.

I am not to sure to understand why you are angry against steemstem, but if you disagree with any of our votes (because it is a translation for instance), feel free to contact me on the steemit chat. We are humans and sometimes make mistakes.

On different grounds, note that I strongly disagree with your classification. Images and words are not everything :)

superb post. i really love ur post dear.keep it up.

Thanks for posting this. This kind of proposals are very much needed.
I believe, however, that the number of words and images is a bad metric by itself. Maybe taken together with something else it would do better.
A walkaround would be to use the follow button responsibly. Instead of wasting your time in the trending page, you can build a personal feed with the contributors you like so you can always get good content through them. Just like I found your post.
Lastly, steem power up as much as you can to make your vote a worthwhile incentive.
Most people will keep reading crap on steemit like on every other platform, that's just people; but quality communities can be built on steemit despite them.
My opinion.

Hello @alexs1320, your contribution can not be approved yet because it does not look formal and professional. To make it look more better, you need to add more text to describe what you are trying to suggest. You suggestion should have at least 3 subheadings (The problem, Proposed solution/suggestion,Its benefits and Conclusion.)
Also, you used the wrong repository. The correct repository is steemit/condenser, Please kindly edit your contribution to reapply for approval. Thank you.
