[#roadmap2018 - part 3] "Trending by Country" Feature on Steemit Frontend, for Equal Opportunity of Content Discovery

Issue

Right now, all @steemit users around the world fighting for one chance only, to be visible or enter the trending menu. This is certainly very difficult and almost impossible to happen for new comers, because of several factors as follows:

• Account Reputation ;
• Amount of Steem Power or Vesting Power ;
• Amount of Followers ;
• Content Language ;
• Profession Background (infamous person worldwide) ;
• Etc.

If the current pattern continues to be maintained, then until doomsday will not give a significant change to the growth of the minnows, so that the rich Steemians will continue to be rich and vice versa, because the opportunity to compete is very small than it should be.

Solution

Based on these considerations, I want to offer a new feature to solve the issue, named "Trending by Country".

With this feature, we can help the minnow grow up faster, including new steemian from each non-english country, such from Asia, Africa and Latin America. Because I believe they can create better content in their native language better rather than forcing themselves to use google translations, just to pursue votes from foreign users.

Once this feature release, also will give a good chance to local curators to focus on curating their local user, so that in the future will create new whales very much in various countries, and the ultimate consequence is also making steemit will increasingly in demand all over the world.

Summary

Here is the sample to be implemented :

• The trends will show default which country the user live in or from where they access steemit. For example, I'm from #Indonesia, so the feature will show as below.
  

In this condition, I'll receive all update on trending page only from Indonesia steemit users, including trending tag/category and also trending posts. See the explanation through the following picture.

• If I want to see Worldwide trends, I can change it according to what I want to see. Here're the step to do that:

Step #1
Click "change" or see the image below.

Step #2
Then you'll see a pop-up menu like this. Here you can choose a location you desire. Choose a location near you or search a new location that isn't yet listed, then click "done". See the image below for more detail.

For example I choose Singapore as new country to see update from Singapore Steemit Users. Now I can see the trending has change to #Singapore.

Additional Information

• What I present in the screenshot or summary above just as an early description, but this feature can certainly be developed with a better user interface and simpler. For example by utilizing the existing trending menu and then create a drop-down menu there to determine the location / country of interest.

• This feature is inspired by twitter and I use the app as a screenshot to visualize the form of the feature.
