Carnet: An open source note-taking application with a cloud-based server for storing of files. (Part 1)

It's not up to one month since I authored a post based on my then favorite note-taking application Omninotes. The adverb then in the above statement signifies that I have moved on from Omninotes because I have discovered a new note-taking application which is now my favorite.

When it comes to technology, I am very subjective. I have a belief that regardless of the products we are currently using, there are always a better alternative yet to be discovered.

Before the inception of mobile phones, information was sent through the fax machines and the mailing offices. During that period, the people were comfortable because they didn’t know of a better means in which information can be transferred.

Oftentimes, I search through different app hosting platforms with hope to discover products that are better in functionalities and features more than the ones I'm currently using.

After several months of using Omninotes as my text editor, I got weary of it and I needed to try something new. I went in search of an alternative application which will be more better in features and functionalities.

The search didn't last for long, because it was streamlined to focus only on open source applications, but in the end, I got tons of it.

One of the applications I got was Carnet, a freely distributed note-taking application with spruce features and a smooth user interface.

Apart from certain commercial apps like Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook which are necessary for everyone to have, most of my applications are open source.

My interest in open source applications began the day I joined the utopian community. I never knew they were categories for different applications.
I took the time to read about the different categories, and I made an intensive comparison afterward.

After comparing and contrasting the two categories of applications which are closed and open source, I came to the conclusion that one was better than the other, and for me, it was the open source applications that were better.

We all know that human beings are subjective in their decisions, but I'll always choose a freely distributed app whose source codes are made available to the public to a commercial app whose source codes are shielded away from the public.

CARNET note-taking application is a freely distributed software whose source codes have been published for public consumption. It is available for different platforms like Linux 32 bits AppImage, Linux 64 bits AppImage, and Android platforms.

CARNET note-taking application houses numerous features that are extremely useful. Like the inbuilt cloud-based server which is designed to ensure users can protect their important documents by uploading it to their cloud-based server. Documents uploaded to a cloud-based server within CARNET can be retrieved on any other device that has an internet connection.

CARNET note-taking application supports different cloud storage features and functionalities, it has an option for synchronizing with Google drive and nextcloud.

When it comes to its text editor, CARNET developer has made it possible to adjust and enhance written text to suit your desired style and format. For those who can not type without using markdown formats, the developers have made necessary provision for It.

When I first launched the CARNET note-taking application, I was a bit worried if a sentence, character or word count feature will be included. To my surprise, the developers had already included it on the app.
As a writer, I love to know the number of words, sentences, and characters whenever I'm typing. I was pleased to see this feature on the application.

FORMAT FEATURE

When I saw this feature for the first time, I was glad because I knew of its value. Format feature might seem common to some people, but it is not integrated into most note-taking applications that I have used.

The format feature comes handy with various options such as the option to bolden text, underline text, convert text to italics and adjust the position of the text.

When you click on the format feature, all the necessary tools needed to format a text will be displayed.

I have used these tools for quite some time now and I can honestly say that it improves the typing speed of a user.

EDIT FEATURE

When you come across an edit feature on other note-taking platforms, you get to see numerous options designed to aid users in editing their desired documents.
On CARNET note-taking application, the edit feature houses only three options which are a copy, paste and select all options.

These options are self-explanatory, and I have used them countless times to adjust my files and documents.

MEDIA FEATURE

If the CARNET note-taking application did not have a media feature, it would have been worthless to me and I’m sure I would have uninstalled the application when I find out.

I remember when I used to copy my articles from my note pad and paste it on busy.org’s post editor in order to include a media file. Thanks to the CARNET team of developers because this has been avoided.

The developers made provisions for an inbuilt recorder on the application which will enable users to record audio files and attach them to his documents.

The audio upload section caught me by surprise because I didn't figure it could be added. I so much thank the developers for including this feature during development because now I can start including voice memos to my notes.

CONCLUSION

An application such as CARNET note-taking application deserves the top spot because of how useful, secured and transparent it is.

CARNET note-taking application’s design is unique and perfect. Its user interface has been carefully designed and it has extremely useful features not seen on other platforms.

I love CARNET cloud-based server feature which offers cloud-based storage where users can securely upload files and documents. The good thing about this feature is the fact that no matter what happens to your smartphone or computer system, you can still retrieve your stored files.
