Utah Rain Harvest

In 2010, Utah started allowing people to collect rain water on their property. In Salt Lake people can have two fifty gallon rain barrels. These cisterns need to have a tight fitting cap to prevent mosquitoes from breeding. Once you have barrels, you need to register with water rights department .

The Utah Rivers Coalition points out that collecting water that would otherwise flow onto streets or into the storm system will actually reduce the amount of pollution washed into our state's rivers.
