Unfortunately it's very true. Many have to be on state provided medical assistance or food stamps in order to make it by. The sadder part, it seems acceptable to take these hand outs and live off them without trying to stop. I am one on food stamps and medical assistance, but I work and try my best to provide for my family with our hobby farm to compensate as well as my off farm job. I see many others who get money from the government and make no effort to work. I am deeply saddened by my generation and what they are teaching the next. Laziness and self entitlement. Hard work is something many don't know how to do anymore. Hopefully they'll find a solution that helps.
I also totally understand that some need to be on the assistance because of disability or loss of spouse. It does happen, but those who are capable of working but make no effort...those are abusing the system.
