Considering making monkeypox a health emergency is the Biden administration
In an effort to prevent the monkeypox virus from spreading throughout the country, the Biden administration is debating whether to declare the epidemic a public health emergency. In addition, the administration plans to appoint a White House coordinator to lead the response.
Leaders of the White House and health agencies deliberated over the course of the weekend on the best course of action to take in the fight against the virus after the World Health Organization on Saturday issued its highest level warning, designating monkeypox as a Public Health Emergency of International Concern. Since May, nearly 17,000 cases have been verified outside of Africa, including roughly 2,900 in the US, as infections rise in nations where the virus has not previously been found.
although the gay and bisexual community has seen the majority of the new cases, experts warn that other groups are likely to be affected. It was confirmed on Friday that the first two monkeypox cases in youngsters in the United States had occurred, most likely as a result of living with an infected adult. However, federal health authorities claimed that there was currently no proof of persistent transmission among larger demographic groups.
