Yikes! Thai man finds cockroach legs in his McDonald’s coffee

After the post went viral, McDonald's Thailand issued a statement apologising for the incident. In a letter posted on Facebook, the brand also assured customers its employees would follow the global fast-food chain’s safety standards.

Drinking coffee from big retail food chains is part of our everyday lives. Be it on the go while at work or catching up with friends, we love to have a cup of Joe. We love to customise it with an extra dollop of cream or chocolate sauce, but cockroach legs might not be a topping that would cross your mind! Nevertheless, that is exactly what someone found floating on the froth of a coffee he bought at a McDonald’s outlet in Thailand.

Posting the photo of his cup on Facebook, the user who goes by the name Nostalgic Eik described his horrible experience. Writing a post on McDonald’s Facebook page in Thai, Eik said that he first thought, “cockroaches were trapped in the glass.”

After he complained to the staff, his glass was replaced, but Eik was appalled by the lack of hygiene and cleanliness. “I told a staffer there and I was given a new cup of coffee. But it seemed that the problem remained as I heard the staffer ask a colleague whether the coffee maker was washed or not. I felt bad when I heard that,’’ he told the Bangkok Post.

Further adding that not only does he expect some basic standard of maintenance such as the machines being checked regularly, but the staff should be more vigilant while handing out a cup to customers.
