Welcome back with us of the CooperFelix Team friends Steemians and Backers. This morning together with my two partners we went to the bank branch in our country of Mondragone to be heard by the very kind Director. It seems that there are some communication problems between the Credit Agency, to which the project to which we participated refers, and the bank branch. Unfortunately, the time range within which this problem will be solved has not been specified but we have been reassured by the Director on the resolution in short times, we hope to succeed within the arrival of spring being the mass of very conspicuous work and not wanting to make us find unprepared. I want to talk to you in this post about updating another aspect related to the project, many are not aware of the potential that compost can have in terms of energy. Certainly, we talk about the possibility of using an inert and apparently useless matter in both electrical and thermal energy, therefore an indispensable resource for the sustenance and progression of civilizations on this Planet. How can a mixture of brown earth produce energy? If you are curious enough and have a little patience in reading this post, you will find the answer by scrolling and reading.




As is known, the raw material often used for energy production (especially electricity) comes from the extraction of fossil carbons from mines and sediments which are then processed and burned in special combustion chambers from which energy is obtained which is converted into energy electrical, however this production mechanism releases large quantities of toxic substances in the air, thus polluting the environment with very serious repercussions on the health of all living beings. Moreover, it constitutes a serious expenditure of natural resources which, as we all know, are exhaustible and the exploitation of these resources in a disproportionate way also negatively affects the earth's climatic conditions, altering their natural balance. In light of these considerations, therefore, the need arises to find alternative sources of energy or alternative raw materials for fossil fuels for energy production, we often talk about renewable energies categorizing the type of energy at the sole source of solar energy and therefore the use of photovoltaic panels, but there is not only solar energy, there are many other alternatives to produce energy from wind turbines up to hydroelectric power plants passing for the extraction of biogas. I really want to talk to you about this last category. As mentioned in previous posts, the production of compost takes place through a process of aerobic biodegradation of the organic-vegetable matter through the action of fungal microbacteria. In reality, the degradation of biomass can occur in different ways depending on which different types of energy can be produced, but we analyze this aspect step by step.


During the oxidation process, the mixture subjected to degradation releases into the environment (composter) a certain amount of gas composed of about 70% methane while the remaining meadows of the composition comprise a prevalence of carbon dioxide. The purpose of a bio-digestion plant is precisely to be able to withdraw this gaseous quantity from the composter in order to then treat it and then convert it into gas to be reused for the district heating of numerous houses, or even convert it back to electrical energy thus supplanting the need to burn fossil carbons, considerably reducing the emissions of carbonic anhydride into the air. The engineering show is just that, and I think it is really the way to go, increasingly optimizing the conversion processes until you reach an ideal state of emission cancellation. A difficult challenge but which I believe can be overcome, given the numerous other challenges that science and knowledge have already been able to face by proposing concrete solutions.




A bio-digester can be conceptually assimilated to a closed system with rigid and fixed walls that can have small cracks if you want the degradation process to be aerobic or it can be an isolated system with the outside in the case in which the process must be anaerobic. For the purposes of biogas production it is obviously necessary for the digester to be isolated to prevent the gases produced during degradation from escaping, therefore, in this case, the process is started by a pre-heating of the biomass which degrading produces pre-extracted biogas and destined to conversion or to combustion for heating. The conversion into electrical energy takes place thanks to the implementation on a large (industrial) scale of a Rankine Cycle thanks to which the thermal energy produced by the combustion of biogas is converted into mechanical energy connected to a large generator that assumes the "dynamo" function which converts this energy into electricity.


All this at the moment is beyond the scope of the project due to economic and material obstacles, but we do not hide the desire to implement a similar self-sustaining system by replicating existing realities in many Northern European countries that also exist in some regions of Northern Italy. The CooperFelix-Multiservices Project is the first piece of a great project of great social and environmental importance. With CooperFelix we will deal first with sensitizing people to take care of the environment and properly disposing of everyday waste, referring to a new company in the Italian business landscape and which has the environmental issue at heart. This first step also wants to be an incentive to the release of work that is still stuck in the South, registering a high number of unemployed but willing to undertake a path of training and growth, both personal and professional, in a field always more expanding like the one of the Cooperfelix Project and the renewable energy project.
