Giving stupid answers to public questioning.

On the one hand, the president of a prestigious university -- UPenn, Harvard, American University, or MIT -- ought to know better than to equivocate rather than to outright condemn calls for genocide against Jews or any other racial, ethnic, or religious group. On the other hand, I assume that these four women, who got themselves into so much trouble during their congressional testimony, are dedicated public servants committed to educating some of America's brightest students. Should "one strike and you're out" be the rule with regards to giving stupid answers to public questioning?
I think it might be more useful for these three equivocators to experience their own authentic Day of Atonement, After all, they are professional educators. If anyone should be able to learn from their mistakes, shouldn't it be the people whose life work is education?
