"KAGURAN" | Philippines' Native Pride

in #untalented8 years ago

I am proud to introduce to all our Steemians about this thing we called "Kaguran".

Kaguran is a native name we commonly use in the Visayas part of the Philippines (middle part of the Philippine's geography )

Although you can see this in many forms like longer and bigger, this is how I made my own version. This is used to produce a pure coconut milk. A manually operated and unique way to extract coconut milk from itself.

It is basically threaded as its teeth and sharp. Using the teeth to grate your coconut.

As it is done manually, extra precaution is necessary!
It is fan and unique style that is still practiced up until today.

Since that you can't find like this in the United State, I surely brought one with me so I could still enjoy and cook some filipino dishes with pure "gata/coconut milk". Why not buy cococunot milk sold in can? Well, this is better and natural. That's why I like it.

Add a small amount of water and squeeze to produce the natural milk.

After your multiple squeezing, screen it to extract the pure milk.

And here you have your pure coconut milk. Ready for any dishes you pleases to use to.

Using this manual-operated machine reminds me of my childhood. I used to live in the mountain part which is unaccessable to any vehicles. We would even walk for miles to reach our school. A place where surrounded with cocunot trees as it is the community's basic livelihood. We would always use a coconut milk to cook our everyday dishes. When there is no food in the table, get a coconut and extract the milk, put some salt and we have our soup.
It was cool and painful yet beautiful memories of hardship. Hardship that challenged us to strive so we could see the wider world. Challenges that helped us persever. And in every perseverance was a teacher that taught us to be braver. Behind the word brave was a process which helped me be more disciplined, and I thought, discipline was the key why I was able get through. I couldn't make it by my self if it wasn't by the Grace of God.

There are still many families that are living the same with my past, it shouldn't be a hindrance to achieve some of your goals or your life-goal. Whatever it is that we are going through in life, keep fighting and remain positive! Hold on to your dreams and one day, you'll just wake up living with it.

Your dream is not over until you say it's over. Remember that you are the driver of your self, with your clear vision, you'll get there!

Be inspired and have a blissful day steemians!

'til my next blog.
