Do you think the organising Body is dropping the standard or is still being faced with issues that laced last year's event?, or yet to recover from the drama that ensued in the penultimate year and last year? Described as Nigeria's most respected music awards, it will be recalled that the Headies announced recently that the 2017 edition will hold on to 2018. Believed to be Nigeria’s most authentic awards for pop music and urbane culture, Headies announced it will skip a year for the first time since 2006, and the event now restructured, where the new version will take place on March 24, 2018.
It will be recalled that the Headies was held annually in March for many years since inception in 2006, before the committee moved the event to the last quarter of every year. However, they are taking it back to its original format. HEADIES explained the event will return to the first quarter, and it will also add new categories to reflect the realities of today’s music and entertainment industry.
As a way id juxtaposing issues, the coming event is set to reward everyone who has worked hard in 2017, the year-in-review has also been reviewed to adequately accommodate more music materials released between July 2016 and December 2017. In like manner, the HEADIES has disclosed, the year in review will be January to December of each year.
Some new categories added to spice this years event include, Viewer’s Choice, Industry Brand Supporter, Best Performer, Best Song Writer of the year, amongst others. Thus, the Viewers’ choice prize will give full power to fans through a voting system that lets them decide absolutely, even as Brand Supporter Award will recognize brands who are supporting the industry at a time when we have very rare opportunities.
Similarly, this year's event will reward the Best Performer, will reward the Artistes whose stagecraft, showmanship and performance routines are exceptionally conceptualized and executed; while the Best Song Writer finally brings to the forefront the talents who compose the lyrics and melodies for the songs we celebrate.
Apparently, this will increase the categories of awards to 24, with each winner receiving 21 carat gold-plated plaque, and the stamp of excellence from one of Africa’s most respected music awards.
This is the gist.
However, reactions are beginning to pour out as a result of this believed to be an abrupt suspension of a Fun-filled and long expected event. While some wonder what could be wrong with the prestigious award, some say Headies is in a serious mess it is yet to recover from, or make up for the drama that ensued 2015 and 2016.
