Six Months Cut Off

It's nighttime in the Embassy --
Oh, hear the ticking clock.
Time is something you do here
In this London brick cell block.

Candle flickers light the walls
That might as well be barred.
Six months without internet
Is really bloody hard.

No calls or visits anymore;
It's said they're not allowed.
Something startles Embassy Cat,
Who questions with, "Meow?"

Could it be a cat burglar
Who came to steal or spy?
Someone with a vengeance
Born of secrecy and lies?

But no, it's just a messenger
With bent up wings and worn out clothes.
A titled halo tops her head
Few ever see her - this she knows.

But for a moment cat and man
Envision brighter days.
She leaves them with the feeling that
Those aren't so far away.
