Unibright (UBT) ICO Review
Fun fact: Do you know that the world largest passenger airliner, the Airbus A380 is made up of four million individual parts produced by 1500 companies from 30 countries around the world?
You can imagine the difficulty to track all the parts, monitor the shipping, and bring them all together to form an aircraft. In the aerospace industry, it is very important to track and record the full history of the of the aircrafts and also its components. Blockchain seems to be a good solution to improve supply chain traceability due to the immutability. In 2016, Airbus has joined IBM Hyperledger to study the possible use cases of blockchain in the aerospace industry. Many companies are also studying the possibility of integrating blockchain into their ERP or IT systems, but one of the reasons that hinders them to pursue further is the cost. It is expensive to employ blockchain developers, and it also requires a lot of time (=costs) to let the current employees undergo courses to learn about smart contract.
What is Unibright?
Introducing a Germany-based project, Unibright, who aims to reduce the implementation and adaption costs, and to make it easier for companies to integrate blockchain into their existing business. What Unibright proposes is a unified framework, consists of some templates and integration tools. No coding skills is required to use the framework to deploy a smart contract or to extract information from blockchain.
How does it work?
According to the whitepaper, the Unibright Ecosystem has 4 components: UB Workflow Designer, UB Contract Lifecycle Manager, UB Explorer and UB Connector.UB Workflow Designer: Different smart templates with different purposes can be found in the Workflow Designer. There are already 9 templates demonstrated on the website. For instance, if you are an engineer and your job is to track and record safety information about an aircraft, you can use the customizable “Asset Lifecycle” Template to design the workflow. Most importantly, you do not need to have programming skills to use the UB Workflow Designer.
UB Contract Lifecycle Manager: From the templates, codes (Solidity for Ethereum) are generated automatically here and the smart contract is deployed. The smart contract can be updated, paused or terminated anytime if needed.
UB Explorer: Using the explorer, users will be able to see all the relevant data and the status of the ongoing smart contracts. Smart Queries Sets are generated automatically based on the type of templates. Other queries generated by users can also contain conditions. For “Asset Lifecycle” Template, you can have queries like, “Show the maintenance history since the origin”, “Show the operating history for the last 30 days”, etc.
UB Connector: The function of UB Connector is to connect companies’ existing off-chain systems, like SAP ERP, to Unibright framework and become part of the blockchain based business integration. The Smart Adapters found in the UB Connector can also allow cross-blockchain interaction because sometimes, smart contracts need to be deployed on more than one blockchain (ex: Ethreum and Monero) to complete a mission.
Team
Unibright is a spinoff of SPO Consulting GmbH, a company specialized in business integration and ERP-System consultancy. It has a list of well-known clients such as Lufthansa, Samsung, Siemens, ABB, Shell, etc.There are 7 team members and 7 advisors listed on the website, with solid background in business integration, data modelling and blockchain.
The CEO and Founder, Marten Jung is an expert in SAP Integration and has 20+ years of experience in business modelling.
The CTO and co-Founder, Stefan Schmidt has an extensive experience in business modelling and software architecture. He is also the Executive Partner of a certified Microsoft Partner software development company.
At the side of advisors, they have Oleksii Matiiasevych, who is a smart contracts engineer at Ambisafe. In 2017, Oleksii had saved 1,5M USD from an attempted hack.
Tapio Reisinger is their advisor of ERP system. He has decades of experiences in Solution Architect and is currently developing enhancement for SAP products.
The team does seem a little small but Unibright has the plan to recruit more people after the ICO.
Partnership
Unibright has already established some partnerships, and Microsoft is one of them! The prototype and the existing solution of Unibright are built upon Microsoft Technologies. Secondly, they have also partnered with Ambisafe, who will manage the token sale of Unibright. Chainium, a successful blockchain project that aims to built the world’s first dual blockchain equities network, has a strategic partnership with Unibright and will be using Unibright framework to achieve their goals.
