The rule of law has been perverted. To uphold the rule of law should be to ensure no harm is caused by anything done, then upholding it would indeed be sacred. The reason legal can never be law is because if there is any way that upholding it could cause harm then it cannot be law.

Here in Australia we have the Australian Conservation Foundation constantly fighting tooth and nail for the protection of our precious natural resources. Even once they get laws in place to protect areas, they still spend decades going back to court to fight attempts at infringements. The government is constantly breaking their own laws to push things through that they know the shouldn't.
