Fengjing is a famous historical and cultural town in China, and one of the eight scenic spots in Shanghai. Historically, it was known as the famous town of Wu-Yue because of its location at the intersection of Wu and Yue; Fengjing is a typical ancient town in the southern part of China. The town is surrounded by a network of waterways, with 52 bridges, the oldest surviving being the Zhihe Bridge of the Yuan Dynasty, which has a history of nearly 700 years. Fengjing has 29 streets and workshops and 84 lanes and alleyways in the town. The four ancient buildings still intact today are Heping Street, Production Street, North Street and Friendship Street, with a total area of 48,750 square metres, making it a large and well-preserved ancient water town in Shanghai. Fengjing Ancient Town is a famous historical and cultural town in Jiangnan, China, and is also one of the eight new Shanghai scenic spots. It is located in the southwest of Shanghai, it and Shanghai and Zhejiang five districts, the county border, before the liberation of Fengjing town south and north of the jurisdiction of Zhejiang Jiashan County and Jiangsu Songjiang County. 1951 the whole Fengjing town was unified under the jurisdiction of Shanghai Songjiang County, and since 59 years under the jurisdiction of Shanghai Jinshan County.

There are many delicacies in the town, including "Fengjing ding-hoe", "Zhongyuan cake", "Tianxiang dried bean curd" and "Jinfeng yellow wine", which are known as the four best things in Fengjing.

The pavilion in the east of Fengjing Zhihe Bridge is called 'Tak Chuen Ming', a well in the pavilion, and six wells outside the pavilion, arranged in the north, the wells are also called 'Tak Chuen'. According to legend, when Gu Wenbing, a resident of the Ming Dynasty, saw a well next to the land he had reclaimed for money, he used the proceeds to help build a well to benefit the villagers.

Fengjing's ancient theatre was built on the square of the City God Temple, with one side on the street and the other on the river. Whenever a play was performed, the audience who came by boat from the water could sit on the boat and watch the play. This theatre was rebuilt. The reconstructed ancient theatre, with its flying eaves and corners, has an ancient atmosphere.

It is said that there are at least one or twenty kinds of stone bridges in Fengjing ancient town. There are 39 ancient stone bridges spanning the river, including one built in the Yuan Dynasty, 11 in the Ming Dynasty and 21 in the Qing Dynasty. The picture shows the oldest surviving bridge of the Yuan Dynasty, the Zhihe Bridge, which is nearly 700 years old.

From the bridge, you can see the beautiful scenery along both sides of the river. On the left bank is the 268-metre-long Fengjing promenade, a typical Jiangnan water village building, which is one of the best in Jiangnan and almost the first of its kind among the surviving promenades.
