While Manila has Rizal park with Dr. Jose Rizal's statue holding a book, in Cebu we have Lapu-Lapu shrine. Both are iconic landmark which speaks to a significant spot in the Philippine history. In the event that you are a first time guest in Cebu City the primary thing a tourist guide would inform you is regarding the historical backdrop of Lapu-Lapu, the strong Filipino warrior who battled for opportunity from Portuguese colonizer headed then by Ferdinand Magellan, who died in the fight from Lapu-Lapu's sword. So there, at Mactan shrine the Cebuanos, local people of Cebu, made an imitation of him by building a bronze statue of Lapu-Lapu years prior, which I figure twice his size, wearing jewelry made of wild creatures teeth, round gold hoops, and a 'bahag' male lower piece of clothing and holding his fight sword and shield which symbolizes his grit.
