ULOG #27: Food Blog: Holiday Inn's Lamisaan and Sinner or Saint
That is the million dollar question.
Which one are you? A sinner? A saint? A little bit of both?
This is my #ulog for today.
There is a new hotel in town that opened this month. Their onsite restaurant is called Lamisaan Dining and Bar. Lamisaan which means table in our local language. The food above is their Chicken Biryani. It is chili and lots of spices but it tastes good. The blend of spices, rice and vegetables makes a delightful palate experience. If you like curry, spices and chili, then this is for you.
This is where Lamisaan is located. We have been excited as to how this place will be. I have been to Holiday Inn in Bangkok and I love it. I like the modern style of Holiday Inn Express in Siam the most. Holiday Inn Silom and Sukhumvit are nice, too, because the designs of these are not ordinary. It is not your usual box of a hotel with windows. It has texture. It is contemporary and unique.
I was kind of disappointed with the design of Holiday Inn here in Baguio City. I have not been to US but my friend, who was my date earlier today, who have been to some Holiday Inns in US said this is how some of the hotels look like. Without the name Holiday Inn, then it would just be any generic type of establishment.
My foodie friend and me also ordered Kare-Kare. This is a beef stew with thick peanut sauce mixed with vegetables. There is served with fish sauce and a cup of steamed rice. The serving of the Kare-Kare is enough for two people but good for one big eater. It has two slices of eggplant the size of a finger, a chop of banana heart/blossom and a bundle of bok choy. The usual places we eat this has more of these plus string beans and/or pechay. The taste is savory and the peanut sauce is sweet. There is a taste of beef that is kind of strong which I do not like.
The meals here are pricey. Compared to other places where you can eat this Kare-Kare with the same price, you can have this with more serving. There was a place we used to eat that has the same price but it can serve 3-4 people. Everything I love about Kare-Kare is there but sadly, that one closed down.
When we arrived there, there was a sudden power outage. Believe it or not, the hotel was not prepared for that. They have had trouble making the power generator work. From the moment we arrived up until the time we left, there was no power yet. They do not even have candles! The emergency lights were not enough and the staff had to scurry here and there to provide any available flashlights to light the place. As we were finishing up our meal, the hotel guests were brought to the dining area for refreshments while waiting for the power generator to be fixed.
There is no available dessert that we like so we decided to eat at another place which brought us now at Sinner or Saint.
This is what makes this cafe unique. The quotes they put on the plates are something to look forward to every time we come here.
It says in their menu above "A Taste of Cordilleran Culture" because they added traditionally prepared and cooked chicken or pork in their dishes. These meats will make your meals interesting because of added "kinuday" (smoked pork without salt curing) or "pinikpikan" (a traditional way of preparing a chicken before cooking). I do not want to go into detail of that for that because it might be sensitive to others. You can look it up in Google if you dare.
This cafe also serves sweet potato cake, lemon cake and strawberry cake. This cafe is located just right after the arch that borders Baguio City and La Trinidad. La Trinidad and Baguio City is known for its strawberries that's why it is popular among locals to have strawberry cake or strawberry wine or anything strawberry.
We ordered Matcha cake and Lemon cake. There is a mild taste of Matcha but I like that pinch of zest and lemony taste when you eat the Lemon cake. I have yet to try their sweet potato cake. Every time we go there it is always unavailable. Either that is one of their best sellers or it was not really available at that time.
We also ordered nachos to break the monotony of taste of the cakes. Their dip is made of fresh tomatoes with slices of pepper and carrots. To wash it down, they served us cucumber water. I decided not to order any other drinks that time.
This is how their counter looks like. As I stood in front this to take a picture, the staff suddenly hid quickly. I did not mean to scare them away but I am thankful so I can take the whole picture of the counter clearly lol!
There are different signs hanged in walls such as this one below which is located by the counter. I am not sure why there is an arrow there but that is the way to where the toilet and wash area are.
This is my ulog for today. Tell me yours.

By the way I am a sinner but I wish to be a saint hehe. They have a very nice and unique counter.
Rimwar da manen. Huhu. Intono kayo ngay umay ditoy? :D
Back to the quote/question above, there is a Catholic saying, " All saints have a past, and all sinners have a future." In other words, the people who are sinners and the people who are saints are the same. Saints are just sinners as well who recognized that even though they have had sinned. It didn't mean they couldn't move on from their sins to something greater. They persevered in the faith.
