Ulog # 078 | Unexpected Visitors Revisited (with some footage update)
Greetings, dear Steemians
*In a recent post I had mentioned the unusual visit of some tiny birds I thought at the moment were Potoquitas (Scardafella squammata). They were not. They keep coming every day to eat from the gutter and this time I was able to get a bit closer and get a better look at them.
They are Tigui-tiguis (Tringa flavipes)
These tiny birds are related to the Tringa semipalmata, but they are smaller. They belong to lagoons and ponds along the sea coast or the clear spaces in the plains. But with all the alterations and polution in their habitats, we are seeing more of these and other sea birds visiting the city.
We shot this video some time ago. This heron or egret used to visit with another one. Then, only this one kept coming, but we have not seen it any more.
In fact, the city is starting to look like one of those lagoons or mangrove areas. So, I can't blame these little fellas for mistaking our streets for their reproductive and feeding territories.
They are always alert, though. They are learning to eat and avoid being hit by cars or caught by naughty kids while they are at it.
They also avoid annoying humans who only want to take pictures. They just want to eat and live in peace.

It is sad to see how the pollution has dragged our animals to invade areas where they can be harmed, we only have to create awareness so that our children learn to take care of the site where it has.
Yes. Polution is a global issue, but many countries are at least trying to create and implement programs to stop or even reduce their level of contamination. Those also invest in technology and demand factories to implement environmentally friendly policies. Venezuela has done nothing of that and the government has bragged for years that part of their goals is "to save the planet". They can't even keep our streets clean, they can't even fix the cargage trucks, let alone do something significant that may impact the world.
Our children will face unprecedented challenges to their health and conscience, growing up in a country that practically encourages pollution and abuse o natural resources and all living creatures.
Annoying humans! I love that first shot where the birds' shadows are so clear just before they land. Sad that they have to seek refuge, food, and water in such unnatural places for them. But the children get to laugh and play so there's that.
Yes, there is that. I tried to convey that duality. These creatures bring beauty and joy to an otherwise depressing scenery.
