#ulog 05 : A live video of Adult guinea worm | Rare to see after global eradication campaign in 1980
I don't leave in city neither do i have beautiful photo to show the world but i will not deny the world with what i have . As it was raining , i came out to ease myself , low and behold i saw an adult guinea worm known by many name such as thread worm, serpent worm, dragon worm, medina worm, or Dracunculus medinensis . So i decided to video it and show my steemian friends perhaps some have not seen it live and direct but only see the picture in text book so that they will appreciate what they have learnt in text book . This very worm Drancunculus medinensis causes Drancunculiasis, the only parasitic infection of which a good description is given in the bible . As a medical student /personnel , you should know that in 1980, a global eradication campaign was initiated to wipe out this very particular parasite in the face of mankind . So , completion of the three years of zero incidence, India was declared free of guinea worm disease in July 1996 . But re - emergance of this very disease is seen presently at Ethiopia, Mali , Niger, Sudan, and Ghana with their reporting cases . It happen that i saw one in Nigeria as it was raining today. I will not going to bore you people with much detail on the Geographical distribution , Habitat, morphology, life cycle, Pathogenicity, diagnosis, Treatment and prevention of this very parasite because the purpose of this post is not to have a full blown article on guinea worm but to show the world live and direct video of Drancunculus medinensis which is very rare to see after global eradication campaign to wipe out this very parasite and drancunculiasis disease cause by it in the face of mankind .
