ULOG 10.0 | How to Choose the Right Shape of Frame for Your Next Eyeglass

in #ulog6 years ago (edited)

I was browsing my phone's gallery and I found one picture that I took when I was still a trainee in an Optical Shop that I am working right now.

I thought that this general knowledge will help other steemians and uloggers who wear and are planning to wear a pair of eyeglasses. The information that I will be going to share is brief but I believe that it will truly help us in choosing the right shape of spectacle or frame that will fit or enhance our facial look.

So without further ado here is the picture :

Okay, I understand that it is a bit vague. Well the picture is only divided into two columns. The first colum says "shape of the face" and then the second columns says, "shape of frame". In short, in order for us to determine the kind of eyeglass or spectacle in terms of frame shape, we need to determine the shape of our face first.

In general, human face has five types of shapes these are :

  1. ROUND SHAPE
  2. OVAL SHAPE
  3. TRIANGULAR SHAPE
  4. SQUARE SHAPE
  5. RECTANGULAR SHAPE.

As for myself, inorder for me to remember something and retain it in my long term memory, I am fond of creating an "acronym" so it is obvious in the picture that the acronym I inventer is, "R.O.T.S.Rec." It means Round, Oval, Triangular, and Rectangular.

Now the 2nd column suggests the shape of the spectacle for a particular shape of the face, this :

  1. ROUND FACE --> RECTANGULAR FRAME SHAPE
  2. OVAL Face --> MOST OF THE FRAME SHAPE IS OK (Round, Oval, or Square)
  3. TRIANGULAR SHAPE -->RECTANGULAR FRAME SHAPE
  4. SQUARE SHAPE --> OVAL OR ROUND FRAME SHAPE
  5. RECTANGULAR SHAPE --> OVAL OR ROUND FRAME SHAPE + SIZE (Size here means you have to carefully choose a size of the frame that would fit on you aside from choosing the shape. Almost all brands of spectacle frames comes in different sizes so just ask the person who is assisting you if he or she can provide a bigger or smaller size with the particular frame you have choosen).

In summary the acronym I invented goes like this: Re.M.R.O.O. (Rectangular, Most of the Shape except rectangular, Rectangular again and the last two will be oval or round plus the size, thus :

  1. R --->Re
  2. O --->M
  3. T --->R
  4. S ---> O
  5. Rec -->O +size

How about you? Can you suggest a better acronym inorder for you to remember the information above? Please share in the comment below if you created one.

Lastly, I took some pictures of the shapes of spectacles that I am talking about. Please take note that I am not promoting this to sell it here. Hehehe.

Here are some of the common shapes of spectacles:

A. Rectangular shape:

B. Round shape:

C. Oval / Teardrop shape:

D. Square shape:

E. BONUS (Cats Eye shape):

That's all for now. I hope you have learned something about spectacles and I hope this will help you find the right spectacle just for you!

Congratulations! Your post has been chosen for the SteemPH UAE : Daily Featured Post | July 26 2018.

Thank you so much ... More power to team @steemph.uae

Hi...did you use any references for your post? Please cite them if you have. Cheers.

Hi @bayanihan I wish I could provide the reference but this was my written learning from the Head Optometrist who served as our trainor. He is a Nigerian doctor his name is Dr. Ben Adjeh. I think it is fair enough to mention his name here as my first mentor when it comes to optical sales training in the U.A.E.

I think I kept also a module for training provided by him but I am sorry I cannot post it here since it is a company property.

Also, creating/inventing an acronym above is my own way of memorizing things so I cannot provide any reference also.

Anyway I found one interesting website that is a bit similar with what I have provided I hope this will help:
