Growing up has been filled with mixed feelings.
Good and sad feelings as well.

At the age 16, in my grade 11 in high school, I was diagnosed with progressive myopia.

Myopia, or nearsightedness, is a refractive error, which means that the eye does not bend or refract light properly to a single focus to see images clearly. In myopia, close objects look clear but distant objects appear blurred.

I can see nearer object clearly. But for me to see a farer objects, I have to strain my eye which puts pressure on my retina.

My myopia is progressive myopia and such, it can't be corrected or cured but only managed.

I was depressed during those days because the ophthalmologist said that I will subjected to wearing glasses the rest of my life.

In my second year in college, my myopia became so severe that i had to undergo laser eye surgery.

The ophthalmologist said that the laser surgery would correct the already weak retina and curtail the myopia from progressing further.

The lab tests and all other requirements, both parental consent and insurance were signed and the surgery took place.

There were improvement in my eyesight. The least distant of my eyesight increased drastically. I could see objects 5klm away unlike before. Though I still use medicated glasses to lessen the pressure on my eyesight.

The one of the symptoms of myopia is severe headache. Any time I stress my eye or look into a bright light, I will end up having a severe headache which most time last for whole day.

I have taken so many medication prescribed by my ophthalmologist yet most times the headaches persists.

It seems like I will be living the rest of my life with headache, so sad.

Yesterday and today, even as I am writing this post, I am still battling with severe headache.

Its a challenge I have accepted to face happily. My myopic illness wouldn't even stop me from soaring high.

So fellow steemians, if you are reading through this and you are going through one illness or the other, don't loose faith.

Hold on and never allow it to distract or way you down.
Believe and hope in God.
