It was a day full of love and smiles! I’m absolutely glad to be part of this awesome project and witness the postive effect it gave to the children. It was a successful event that showcased compassion, love, and kindness. Seeing those sweet smiles has brought unspeakable joy to my heart!

The committee had prepared arts and crafts, games, and giveaways for the kids. Yes, it was honestly a difficult job to handle both the kids and event, but with everyone’s helping hand and cooperation the tasks was made smooth. I enjoyed watching the kids while they brushed the tip of their crayons on the paper and put colors on the drawings. Kids had fun and was serious of their art activity and created a colorful image of a dull drawn paper.

After the whole coloring session, the little boys and men volunteers had a short game of basketball which they obviously enjoyed by shooting and scoring for each team. It was amusing to watch the little boys acting manly during the basketball game. It was obvious that they had a great time playing ball with their big brothers.

Basketball wasn’t the only game of the event but there were other fun games prepared by the committee and the paper dance was one of my favorites since I participated and was also a player of this game. I had fun balancing myself with my partner. Although, we did not win but my partner and I had fun dancing and unleashing our techniques to balance ourselves on a piece of paper.

After all the art activities and games, it was time for LUNCH!! Yes, you read it right. We also brought foods for the kids to enjoy! Who wouldn’t love the sweet smell and scrumptious taste of food. I find it cute to see the children enjoy such a hearty meal and how happy they were to receive their packed lunch.

Next, it was time to give the donations and bundles of joy. The kids were really excited to receive their slippers, clothes, and bundles. But before we distributed the goods, we had to give the essential goods to the nuns who took care of the children. Goods that composed of soap, shampoo, detergent, and dishwashing soap that would be used for the children’s daily needs.

After the giving of everyday necessities, the kids lined up to get a pair of new and comfortable slippers! You could see how happy they were when they received their new slippers. Their faces was filled with genuine smiles. Next, we gave them new clothes that made them more excited and rushed all the way to us. All I could see is the happy faces they make by receiving their new clothing. Lastly, we gave them bundles of joy individually and they immediately lined up to receive their goods. Although it was an exhausting day handling the kids and event, it was their smiles that made it priceless!

Thoughts:

• I’ve always believed that “we can give without loving, but we cannot love without giving”. So, I’ve realized that this event wouldn’t be possible without the love that the Steemians had for those in need. It takes a heart full of compassion and selfless love to give and show generousity to the less fortunate. This event not only made the kids smile but also had a great impact on me and has helped me build up my character as a compassionate individual.

• It is joy unspeakable to know and see that you have made someone’s downcast heart into a cheerful heart. Truly, it is beautiful to help those in need without expecting anything in return. This is unconditional love.

• Once again, I am proud to say that I’m glad to be part of this event. This project not only showed compassion to the needy but made the street children realized that they too are also part of humanity.
