To cook or not to cook...

He, he, I'm just kidding. Yes this pair of veggies in the picture I was going to cook could not be found in the "Popular" song in the Filipino community entitled "Bahay Kubo".

These two vegetables are popular only to the Ilocano community in the Northern part of Luzon in the Philippines. The little cute flowers are called "Sabsabidoccong" and the green leaves are called "Saluyot". And so they were not mentioned in the "Bahay Kubo" song. ( the little fly in the photo is not included in the menu of course..he,he)

Bahay Kubo ,or Nipa Hut is a type of stilt house indigenous to the cultures of the Philippines. It often serves as an icon of Philippine culture or, more specifically, Filipino rural culture.

Most of the lyrics of the song are names of Filipino vegetables that are supposed to be planted around the Nipa Hut or the "Bahay Kubo."

But the two veggies found in the pictures are not mentioned in the Song. Anyway, these two are my favorites. I am an Ilocano, that's why. "Saluyot", which are the green leaves are very popular to us. They are slimmy when cooked and delicous when cooked with salted fish paste. Best paired with the tiny flowers in the picture. The menu then called "Dinengdeng."

Dinengdeng, which is also called "Abraw" or "Inabraw", is a "bagoong" based soup dish made primarily of vegetables, where bagoong is a sauce produced from the fermention of fish or other types of seafood.

I'm sorry I forgot to take a picture of it. But here's a typical picture of a " Dinengdeng" which I found in the web:

And so this was our viand for our lunch yesterday . It was best served while hot, because it was raining.
