Ulog eksena 14 The Abandoned and Forgotten Port

in #ulog6 years ago (edited)

It was built and completed in 1933. This old port is Designed by Lucio Bernasconi an Italian architect who is also responsible of the San Diego De Alcala chruch of Silay City. Consider to be the 1st operational seaport in Negros, Occidental and was one of the longest wharf in Asia at that time with approximate length of 1.7 km. This abandoned wharf was used by the province of Negros for transport and commodities trading. During the Japanese invasion in World War II the port was destroyed by bomb. There are some portions which is removed from its original spot.

The place where this old port was built is not a tourist attraction for now. It is open in public through the access of Sunbust Bay Resort in Brgy. Mambulac, Silay City. I hope in future years this place will be developed to promote this Ruins of Old Port. So please expect nothing but only these historical Ruins left behind many years ago.

There are so much place in Silay that has great historical facts. From the fascinating inspired Basilica of St. Peter in Rome the San Diego De Alcala Church down to the ancestral houses which is part of the Heritage.

How To Get Here!

If you are from Bacolod City take a bus ride from North bound Ceres Terminal. It will take 30 minutes before you reach the Silay proper. Transportation cost is 17 pesos for regular passenger non-air conditioned. You can also ride a transport jeepney available in front of Ceres Terminal which is lesser 5 pesos compared to bus fair.

Inform the conductor to drop you at the Silay Church where you can take a trike ride going to sunburst. Twenty pesos fair plus the twenty pesos entrance fee for Sunburst.

Take note:
The most important thing to remember going to this place is the anticipation of low tide. You wont like to take images when this structure is half submerged into the water. So better look in your calendar and check when is the low tide. Then make sure not to wear white shoes to avoid getting mess on the muddy surface.
