Learning Chinese with me(Part 1)
Today I am enlightened by the series of blog posts on "Learning Spanish with me" from @sakurart, I think it is really a great idea, so I just try to post a series of blogs on "Learning Chinese with me"here.
Below is part 1 of "Learning Chinese with me"! As everyone knows, it takes a long time for us to learn a second language, especially there is a very huge difference between Chinese and English. I have learned English for so many years, unfortunately, I am still a failure.
OK, let's learn some basic Chinese characters together. This part is about color.
Colors--颜色 (yan se)
white--白色 (bai se)
black--黑色 (hei se)
brown--棕色 (zong se)
grey--灰色 (hui se)
pink--粉色 (fen se)
red--红色 (hong se)
orange--橙色 (cheng se)
yellow--黄色 (huang se)
green--绿色 (green se)
azury--青色 (qing se)
blue--蓝色 (lan se)
purple--紫色 (zi se)
Now we have learned 12 kinds of colors in Chinese. In China, people believe that rainbow consists of 7 kinds of colors, so they love to say 赤橙黄绿青蓝紫. Red can be translated into 红色 or 赤色.
Welcome to learn Chinese with me next time!If you have any question about Chinese or China, just feel free to ask me in the comments! It is my pleasure and honor to be useful to you!
Hmm... interesting that the Japanese kanji for those colors is different. For example, red is 赤 and blue is 青. Anyway, having the characters is good, but how do we pronounce them in Chinese?
By the way, have you signed up for whaleshares?
Oh, sorry, I don't know what "whaleshares" is. Here in the Chinese idiom 赤橙黄绿青蓝紫, 青 is blue, 蓝 is indigo. I guess maybe it is because in ancient Chinese, 蓝means a kind of grass used as dyestuff. Just like this famous Chinese idiom: 青出于蓝而胜于蓝"Blue is extracted from the indigo plant, but it is bluer than it." You're right, in ancient Chinese, 青 is the same as Japanese, 青 means blue.
But in modern Chinese, 蓝 is blue, 青 is azury. 赤 still means red.
I am very ignorant about Japanese. It is said that people can find a lot of Chinese characters in ancient Japanese books. However, I don't think their pronunciations are the same.
蓝's pronunciation in Chinese is "lan", 赤 is "chi".
This is very informative Gina. It's fun to learn some Chinese words with you regarding colors. Looking forward to learn more words. Great post. Keep it up dear friend! 😉
Thank you for your encouragement. I just posted another blog on food in Chinese. When you come to China with your Panda, maybe you can order some food in Chinese from the menu. I always love food, I love reading your food blogs so much!
