CALL FOR A HELP

On Friday 28th of September, my friend named Mario from the other company called me and asked for a help. One of his colleagues who is working as an electrical technician had been diagnosed with kidney failure last August 29, 2018 and was confined on 27th September 2018. The doctor’s advice that the patient must undergo surgery before it's too late since his other kidney is continuously swelling. But before the operation will be done, the doctor said that he needs blood transfusion. The patient was advised to ask for someone who can donate red blood at least 4 donors. This photo is the patient's actual kidney taken on 29th August.

So we went to the hospital where he was confined but we had no chance to visit him as we are running out of time. That was 2:30 PM UTC +3, we were five 3 of us are the patient’s colleagues who happened to be my co-workers in my previous employer while the other 2 was I and @tjdc. So we arrive at the hospital at 2:50 PM. Unfortunately, the laboratory room for blood donors was closed since it was Friday they are only available on Sundays to Thursdays.

In Saudi Arabia, Friday is like Sunday in the Philippines its weekend which means off duty. Some of the companies here they scheduled their day off on Fridays and Saturdays especially the government. While we belong to the old school which days off scheduled on Thursday we end our office hour until 2:30 PM UTC+3 and Fridays whole day no duty.

The staff gave us a letter of recommendation with the name of the patient written on it. They instructed us to look for another hospital where their laboratory is open during Friday so we can donate blood. We quickly went to the second hospital but we were not sure if it’s open since it is a government hospital.

THIS WAS FUNNY

Before we left the first hospital where the patient was confined I asked the staff who gave us the letter if ever we are done shall we go back to them or no need. The staff replied that if the hospital will let us bring the blood inside the bag we should go back so that the surgery will be started immediately. Really, The hospital will allow that way? I’m sorry my voice was loud saying NO WAY! Well, I really don’t know since I don’t have any experience or background in biological studies or medicines. As far as my understanding the blood needs the right temperature and we are here in Saudi Arabia where the temperature is near to a river of fire.

Now as we arrived at the second hospital we went to the front desk, there was a cute pretty woman sitting she entertained us nicely asked us what we need. My friend Mario then told her what we really need while the other guy wants to ask her number lol he might forget he is n Saudi Arabia. In less than 2 minutes two guards approached me and the other guy they told us to go out because we are wearing shorts tsk tsk.

There’s nothing we could do but respect their hospital rules. Unfortunately, the laboratory was also closed and it will be open on Sundays to Thursdays again. We were running out of time, the patient was extremely anxious I'm sure as we heard Mario calling him through the phone. Seemed the patient said to him to look for a hospital that could provide the blood he needed for transfusion and he is already 66 years old.

We were thinking, does the hospital’s blood bank was really out of the blood to be used for an emergency? I don’t think so. What if the patient has only 3 hours left to live if not being treated or given a blood transfusion. Of course, Mario told the patient to let the doctor proceed the operation since we are all ready to donate blood for free.

After that, we look for a taxi again and checked another hospital. The third one was a private hospital, we were going to enter the glass door when the guard resists us for the same reason from the previous hospital. Because two of us were wearing short pants while the other three wearing long pants. And another unlucky visit as per the guard they don’t have a laboratory that we are looking for. These two guards were so nice even they only speak Arabic they told us there is another hospital but they’re not sure if there’s laboratory since its Friday.

Quicky we moved out, look for a taxi again nevermind the heat of the sun touches our skin the sweat flowing out from our armpit lol. The most important thing is the life of a human we will be saving so we never give up in looking for hospitals and hoping for a positive outcome.

The fourth option was again a government hospital and guess what? The woman in the information desk was really cute and prettier than the second hospital we visited lol. I was lucky the hospital allows visitors who are wearing shorts and the front desk pretty woman gave us hope. She told us to go to the other building of the hospital but again, we were totally dismayed after we heard a word from the staff that the laboratory only opens on Mondays to Thursdays at 8 AM to 4 PM.

We felt so sorry to the patient, we did our best we traveled from hospital to hospital hoping that we could get an answer but still nothing. After that, we’ve decided to go home as the staff said there’s no hospital where their labs are open during Fridays. My friend Mario who gathered us spent his own money from his pocket. He paid for the taxi and after the fourth hospital, he brought us to a restaurant we ate an early dinner at 4:40 PM.
