Ulog #8 : A Chinese Born Indonesia Wedding

Yesterday was the wedding of two of my church friends and I actually missed the ceremony cause I overslept, so I decided to just go to the party that was help in the evening. Both of them are Chinese Born Indonesian and if you don't know yet in Indonesia, there are many types of wedding cultures. In Jave island, the Javanese usually holds the wedding in the bride's house where they have to stay on the stage from morning till night to receive guests. In Javanese alone there are different cultures base don where they live. But for chinese Indonesia, it is practically the same in every island of Indonesia.

One thing is that the party is held at the wedding halls where round tables are used. Even though nowadays there are garden parties but it is still rare. also, we give money instead of gifts unless you are very close to the pair and decided to give them gold, if you aren't planning to give gold then don't give at all, just pop in your envelope in the box.

For me as a guest, a female one at that, this means spending at least two hours to dress up. You see, when you are invited to a wedding party, the classier the place is, the more you need to dress up. I'm not sure why but I'm definitely not gonna want to be the only one looking like I just came out of the bed. Parties like this is kinda your chance to wear whatever gowns and dresses you have that you bought and can't be worn to the mall. Many will even make sure they have their hair done up in the salon, Unfortunately I'm not that rich to spent a quarter of my monthly slaary to braid and curl my hair for just one evening. I did thought of getting eyelash extentions yesterday though-

The party was great, because the food was great. Lets face it, most come for the foods.

What I notice from this party was that all the flowers used are real flowers, that is something rare to see as plastic flowers are usually used because it is cheaper. So we had fun taking pictures with them. Also, there is no BCI wedding without a dragqueen performing and cabarets!!!

They are really entertaining and funny with their 'dirty' jokes. Usually there will also be a singer with two voices, I remember one singer that sings really awesome chinese songs in both girl and boy voice and he is sooo handsome, I forgot his name though but he is a famous wedding singer. And as girls being girls, my friends and I practically take pictures and selcas the whole time we are there.

With so many weddings lately, it kinda made me feel 'rushed' especially since my mum is already 60 and I would want my children to meet their grandma before. I have only meet one of my grandparents as the other three died before I was born and I have always felt something is missing.

What kind of wedding do I want though? I used to want these type of weddings but now I kinda feel like having a different one, for example... I thin a long red wedding dress like in those chinese wuxia dramas would be pretty, and also, a party in an ancient building, and just give the guests cakes cause I'm a cheap ass. But whatever teh wedding will be, the most important is the groom. finding someone who matches you is really hard, but I'm going to thik positively.
