ULOG (HOWTO): Bud Pumelo aka Shaddock

in #ulog6 years ago (edited)

Hello all, it yet another beautiful day. The weekend has ended and a new week has began.

To be candid, the weekend was blissful and intresting.

Recall that over the weekend, i hinted that we have alot of farm 5activities already scheduled for this new week.

For some weeks now, we have been aiming to raise pumelo also known as Shaddock seedling. This is due to its recent increase in demand from our farmer clients and retailers.

Here is the good news, today, we were fortunate to recieve this well sought after fruit and its budding wood.

In order to meet up with demands in matter of weeks, we kicked off the process of budding immediately. In order not to keep this valuable knowledge to myself alone, i will be sharing it with you all.

The budding method is similar to that of the sweet orange i shared some posts ago. Now lets kick off.

The first stage is to get hold of the budding wood firmly and cut out a little part also known as the scion from it. Ensure the cut is made from any of the stem nodes

An inverted T inscision will then be made on the stock or host plant stem. It is at this point the already cut out scion will be carefully inserted.

The point of insertion is then tightened with a budding tape, in our own case, we used scrap nylon.

The budded plant will be monitored from now on and i will be giving updates.
