Ulog No. 8: "I Rolled my Ankle during a Volleyball Game"

I have been playing volleyball competitively for three years now. This year has been the most successful year for our team so far. Our team, by the way, consists of 7 players, 5 of which are teachers, then the two are husbands of the teachers. One of the two is my husband.

My husband hasn't played for about 4 weeks now because he injured his Achilles' tendon the last time he played. He was in excruciating pain for days suffering from this injury. I remember massaging his foot on the night that it happened with ointment and some massage oil. I was crying because I was blaming myself. If I hadn't persuaded him to play, it would not have had happened.

He is a lot better now, however, he said he would not play for the rest of the season because he didn't want to risk injuring himself again. He doesn't want to compromise his health especially Wednesday is his day to do his weekly juice rounds. Our volleyball game is every Tuesday night.

I'm still thankful that he played for our team and we played volleyball together. I consider this as our quality time together as well.

I knew that he could be a valuable player in our team because he's quite competitive and very skilful, too. I was stoked when he said Yes!!! Unfortunately, he just won't be able to continue playing, and I totally support him.

Anyway, tonight, we had our preliminary finals. We played against the Top 1 in the ladder, which is the "Avago" team. We are second in the ladder. Best of 5 games, and we won the first three games: 3-0, which means that we have already secured our spot in the finals. Avago will play again next Tuesday against the team that won after our game.

The Sunrisers will have a week's rest then from volleyball, which works out best for me. I rolled my ankle during the game and now I'm limping. My ankle is a little bit swollen, and now I'm icing it and elevating it. I hope I won't suffer as much as what happened to my husband, because he's got high pain threshold and yet he was in a lot of pain, so that means it was really bad.

I pray that it will heal quickly and won't be as bad that I can manage not to sit down for hours, especially I will be working full day tomorrow. I felt the pain when I rolled my ankle but I still kept going because I'm also competitive myself.

I'm so excited for the finals in a couple of weeks. I hope we win. It will be a great feeling for sure, especially we've never won the finals yet!
