1st Freshest #Ulog: Yolanda Commemoration, Undried Tears Over An Unforgettable Memory

Today is declared as a local holiday by the city's Local Chief Executive, Hon. Cristina Gonzales Romualdez. In fact, the past four years after the supertyphoon Yolanda created a horrendous havoc in the city of smiles----Tacloban, every 8th of November is declared as a commemorative holiday for those thousands of young and old alike who suffered and perished during this tragic event which will forever be imprinted in the Philippine history.

Though already half a decade ago, those memories of the howling wind that uprooted trees, lift up roofs, hauled ships into the mainland, created storm surges which left all the Taclobanons unprepared and defenseless are all fresh which can be orally transmitted over time again and again.

Just few hours after this supertyphoon landed, survivors stampeded upon ransacked malls and stores just to armed themselves of the basic commodities. It was a kind of a ghoulish nightmare where nobody cares for a shred of decency. All that was in mind was the word SURVIVAL.

Everyone was in a frightful panic.

Well.... Fast forward today, the said commemoration starts off with a Fun Run at early dawn which was participated by the Yolanda survivors. A short program then commence later in the afternoon. A throng pay respect to their departed ones which a landmark was specifically built for them situated at the left side of the city's Astrodome. It feels like a late All Soul's Day Celebration.
