ULOG: Shaping the World with our Personal Experiences
Hello boss! Pls what is ulog about on steemit...?
That was my question to one of my steemit buddies when I popped into the platform sometime last year during my long 'recession' to see almost every post with the ulog tag. Naturally of course I was curious to learn the latest developments on the platform, although commitment was a different thing entirely.
Okay, Terry something. I will suggest you check into their discord server for more help.
It is about writing about yourself.
Somehow, I already knew it was a Terry something; but the last bit of message in text above was what I never knew. I was overwhelmed with absolute apathy for anything on the platform, and so the reply was kind of satisfying. I had no need to "check into their discord server"; I needed no more help with ulog - at least not then. Lol!
I still can't believe I've somewhat easily recovered from that comma. And this nice guy ( @otemzi ) that helped pull me out introduced me to @oracle-d.tasks. When I went through the list of dapps in the specified category for the current task and saw ulog among the dapps, I just beamed to myself. I knew it would be one of the dapps I'd attempt to review; it's the perfect time to get ulogging!

The above quoted text may be seen as the core goal of ulog.org. It stresses the entire essence of the dapp and its concept.
Ulog.org is an emerging media platform and one of steemit's new interfaces. It is a media and blogging platform just like steemit, but with particular emphasis on the individual and their personal experiences in their day-to-day lives.
Information on their site states it succinctly:
The U in Ulog stands for "You".
A ulog is a kind of content that is freshly-created by "You", containing only experiences, events, feelings, moments, knowledge etc drawn from a particular day.
Ulog thus aims at contributing to the wealth of knowledge in the internet by collecting individual daily experiences as against information sourced from the internet. The platform incentivizes individuals for writing about these personal experiences thus, encouraging them not only to learn each day from their experiences, but to share such lessons/experiences with the world and by so doing, contributing their quota to its adjustment.
Although still at its embryonic stage - with features yet to be fully deployed, ulog is an integration of four different websites/projects namely: #untalented, #ulogs, #tearsdrop, and #surpassinggoogle(its founder). The platform would be powered by the tearsdrop token once the anticipated SMT has been implemented on steemit; but for the time being, it uses the steem currency.

Using the ulog dapp requires you to have a steemit account you still have access to. And then you can access the platform by logging in with steemconnect using your steemit credentials. You can sign up for new steemit account to use the ulog dapp if you have none. Just go here
I was quite wowed by the colour and splendour that greeted my sight when I visited the ulog site for the first time a few days ago and signed in. The site is, in one word, amazing; the layout classic. On landing there, you are greeted with video flips of related projects at the topmost part of the site - so much you might be fooled to believe you are on YouTube if not fully conscious! That is class!
Ulogging
There are principles and tags to adhere to when making your ulog. You should always ensure you use the right editor (as determined by your content). For instance if you are making a regular post that has no bear on your personal experience, then using the GENERAL PURPOSE EDITOR is ideal in which case there's no need to use the #ulog tag. On the other hand, if your post is a core 'ulog'(i.e. recounts your life experience), then ideally you should make use of the ULOG MAIN EDITOR in creating and posting such content.
That said creating ulogs is quite simple as the dapp works much the same way as steemit. It's guaranteed you'd have no issues creating your ulogs if you are familiar with the steemit platform.
So to create your ulog,
Locate and click on the pencil icon at the top right hand side of the your account.
You are presented with a list of editors as these
Now let's assume you are about recounting the fun time you had with your family the day before or some tough moments with your colleagues at work. In this case,
- Select Go to the main ulog Editor from the list. This opens a dropdown box just as this one
- Click on Main Ulog Editor at the bottom of the box to open your writing space:
The page indicates clearly where you are to enter your ulog title and your main text. For your tags, input them under Topics where you have #ulog×
Note that the #ulog hashtag is embedded in this particular editor unlike the general editor you'd use in making your regular/non-personal posts. #ulog is by default, the first tag with the main ulog editor, so only choose other relevant tags when ulogging with the editor. You have all the tools you need to format your content to your taste.
Although every kind of post and videos are welcome on ulog, only the contents relating to individual experiences are recognized and rewarded. So to be rewarded on the platform, just ensure your contents are fresh from within you. You also get rewarded by writing your ulogs under the different recognised tags on the platform such as #untalented, #tearsdrop, #ulogs, etc.
Classy Features
Ulogs is a very comely dapp with classy features. Apart from the Youtube video flips of related projects which create noticeable impact on the overall display, ulog has other features that make the dapp very unique and distinct from other media dapps. Some of these include;
Notifications: This feature alerts you on all activities on your account.
Activity log: This log not only keeps track of all activity on your account (performed by yourself and other users), but also lets you filter those activities such as upvotes, comments, posting, replies, financial transactions, etc.
Drafts: Automatically saves your unfinshed work. This prevents lose of your content in the event of an unexpected incidence such as your device shutting down.
Bookmarks: Let's you save your favorite pages for future reference.
Settings: This let's you perform a number of configurations/adjustments to your account such as selecting your preferred language, adjusting your voting weight, setting night/day mode, rewriting links, etc.
Ulog-witnesses: Otherwise known as certified uloggers, ulog witnesses are users noted for their contribution to the ulog platform and are voted by other users (their fans)
Grow: This is a recently added feature, a very laudable aspect of ulogs.org that can't pass by without a mention. The grow function of ulog is a kind of resource tool for users. Here, users get to enjoy special privileges and make contributions to the platform such as
- Submitting videos to ulog tv channel on yuutube and channels of other related projects - #untalented, and #tearsdrop.
- Have valuable minutes with their favorite mentors as would be arranged by the ulog team
- Reaching out to ulogs.org, sharing concerns, and seeking inspirations and advice on crucial matters affecting them
- This tool also offers project owners the oppotunity to give symposium on their projects on popular steem-based communities.
Etc
Aside the above highlighted features, ulog has a host of other features which are yet to be implemented. Some of these include; custom profile, ulog faucet, merchandise, etc.
All these features, combined, readily make ulog stand out tall and with unbeatable edge over other media dapps.
My Take On Ulog
Personally, I see ulog as a very promising dapp. I love its fresh concept of shaping the world with our personal experiences. Furthermore, its attempt at making users into their "awesomest versions", evident especially in the resources it offers users through its Grow function, depicts the platform as one that truly has its users' interests at heart.
I'm yet to see any downside on ulog dapp especially as it is still a work in progress.
My Rating
For all the reasons in my take above - its fresh concept, 'promisingness', encouragement/empathy with users, and for the fact that it encourages inventiveness in individuals, I give ulog 5/5 stars.
