More often than not, the company we keep somehow defines us as a person. Jesus said, Tell me who your friends are and I will tell you who you are.
When we associate with people, our tendencies sway toward the same interest, values, and goals. Frogs don't walk with snakes nor flies fly with the swallow in the morning.
If you live among fools, there's a fat chance that you become one. The destruction of fools is devastating. You don't want to be with them when that happens.
Hence, when we desire to be wise, we associate with the wise.
He who walks [as a companion] with wise men will be wise, But the companions of [conceited, dull-witted] fools [are fools themselves and] will experience harm. https://bible.com/bible/1588/pro.13.20.AMP
