Ulog #2 - Heritage Day: Living The Braai Life

Hey Steemians

Against my better judgement, I shall be attempting a second ulog since the first one didn't do too badly, apparently people like this sort of slice of thing! Since I can't tell from one post I guess I'll do them sporadically and gauge it from there to see if it's a worthwhile adding to my steemit blog.

Let's give it the old college try, shall we?

Heritage day also known as braai day

So yesterday was Heritage Day is a South Africa. A public holiday that is celebrated on 24 September because as African's we love a holiday and its even better if it's a long weekend. Time to Phuza/Dop/Drink, am I right?

South Africans are encouraged to celebrate their culture and the diversity of their beliefs and traditions, in the wider context of a nation that belongs to all its people. Since our country is made up of an insane variety of cultures all with their own unique way of speaking, languages, sense of attire, and how they like to celebrate today.

Why Braai?

One of the staples South African past times, regardless of where you reside in the country is a braai. So what exactly is a braai? Well, some would say its a barbeque if you're American and if you're an Aussie, you'd say it's a barbie.

But if you're South African you'd say that's an insult there is nothing that can compare to a braai in our books lol! So let me take you through a fairly average braai so you can get a feel for what its all about.

Get the meat ready	Spice and marindate your meat	Intoxicate the chef

Can't have a tjop without 'n dop

Unfortunately, some us do not get paid on the 15th or the 25th or ever for that matter and we don't make it to the liquor store in time. So when I got there all the Black Labels and Castles were gone, which is what we actually drink when we braai.

So what do we do when we can't get what we want? We buy what is on special naturally, so I picked up some jacky boys for the braai!

The key to a successful braai is to make sure the chef remains tipsy at all times, this allows you to hone your senses and make sure you remove all fear and doubt that could keep you from producing your best meal.

Continue to drink for better results	Kebabs too	It's not a braai without sausage

Time to dig in

Once you've successfully grilled your meat to perfection, its time to dish up a plate. Make sure its stacked with as much meat as possible and perhaps allow for a salad to hide behind the meat so you can get it down without your tastebuds noticing.

Stay hydrated	Lunch is served	Don't forget about the vegans

So there you have it, a little peak into a braai day and how we operate. Rising up, back on the street, spiced my meat took my chances. Drank a whiskey, now I'm back on my meat. Just a man and his will to braai. Throws a few air punches for good measure
