ULOG + Photography): ULOGRAPHY N°3- Canavalia ensiformis(Toddy)

in #ulog6 years ago

Greetings ulograph friends. Welcome to Toñita's blog, this is how @zanavic69 lovingly baptized me. In these days they gave me some white bean seeds for the small garden that I have in the window of my room, I sowed them like soybeans but my curiosity could more. I went for a walk with "Mr. Google" and my surprise was that they were bean seeds but they were called toddy or cocoa seeds. Many of you may already know this.

This plant belongs to the genus of legumes and its scientific name is canavalia ensiformis; it is also called mucuna, there are white and black seeds and they are large. From what I have investigated, it is a shrub that can have a height of 1.5 meters. It is a type of bean that comes sheathed in a shell about 40 cm long, quite long, isn't it? This climbing plant, adapts to almost any type of soil and is harvested in green or dry. The form of propagation is by seed.

Now to what most interests us, THE KITCHEN.

This marvellous grain or bean has a variety of uses in the kitchen, it can be prepared, in its green or dry form; stewed, in soups or add sancochado in salads and in a rich drink.

DRINK?

Yes, the dry grain is toasted and ground to pulverize and prepare with milk, resulting in an exquisite chocolate drink; of course it is not like cocoa but its flavor is very similar.

OTHER BENEFITS.

The canavalia bean is so generous that it offers us many benefits.

  • This legume has a high content of vitamins and nutrients capable of replacing animal proteins.
  • It is a potent fungicide against ants, you only have to place a few leaves where these insects live that feed on a fungus whose development is diminished by this plant.
  • The leaves serve as food for livestock and ground grains are useful in the diet of poultry, although specialists recommend not to exceed 30% use in the animal diet.
  • It improves soil fertility, since it has the potential to fix nitrogen, generating a very fertile and rich soil for future crops.

So in conclusion, this noble plant has nutritional properties, fungicides and fertilizers. Almost nothing!
For now my plant is small but I hope to take advantage of its goodness.

Interesante nombre que también posee este tipo de frijol.
No sabía que se podía hacer una bebida con ellos, intentaré hacerlo más adelante.
¡Saludos!
